Program Director (Diversity Education & Strategic Initiatives Director)

Definition of Class

This position plans, develops, and executes diversity education programs and strategic initiatives. The Program Director will work with the broader campus to address emerging areas of need and develop institutional initiatives using diversity, equity, and inclusion best practices. The incumbent establishes and implements goals based on strategic objectives, develops and manages assigned budgets, creates strategies to evaluate performance and effectiveness, and provides guidance and supervision for support staff.

Examples of Work Performed
  • Manages daily operations that support diversity education goals and objectives including building, scheduling, facilitating, and evaluating diversity, equity, and inclusion trainings.
  • Provides support for implementation of Pathways to Equity institutional goals, unit Equity-in- Action Plans, and Climate Study.
  • Plans and provides oversight of diversity awards, grants, and incentives.
  • Leads and supervises professional and graduate staff.
  • Creates strategies to evaluate and monitor the advancement of Pathways to Equity goals and action items.
  • Analyzes data and reports to determine trends and contributes to the development of annual reports.
  • Provides consultations and support to academic and administrative Diversity Liaisons in advancing strategic priorities.
  • Collaborates with departments to develop signature efforts to recruit, retain, and advance faculty, staff, and students from underrepresented backgrounds.
  • Facilitates communication and networking among staff and faculty to cultivate collaborative relationships.
  • Collects and analyzes data for use in making recommendations, assessing progress, reporting to internal or external constituents, and/or developing proposals.
  • Develops and manages assigned program budgets.
  • Represents the Division of Diversity and Community Engagement on committees.
  • Performs similar or related duties as assigned or required.
Essential Functions

These essential functions include, but are not limited to, the following. Additional essential functions may be identified and included by the hiring department.

  1. Plans, develops, and directs departmental programs and activities.
  2. Establishes and implements departmental goals and strategic objectives.
  3. Assesses and manages program risks.
  4. Provides guidance and direction for support staff.


Minimum Education/Experience

Education:
Master’s Degree from an accredited college or university.

AND

Experience:
Two (2) years of experience related to the above described duties.

Substitution Statement: Related experience may be substituted for education, on a basis set forth and approved by the Department of Human Resources.
