POSITION SUMMARY

The Student Health and Wellness Department at Grinnell College is looking for an individual to join a highly integrated team of caregivers that combines counseling and physical health of students. The staff nurse provides a broad spectrum of nursing services to students including, testing, assessment, triage, treatment of medical conditions typically found in a young adult population, administration of vaccines, referral to medical providers and counselors as appropriate. The staff nurse coordinates the care of student patients. In addition, the staff nurse may provide educational information and outreach to students, faculty, and staff.

This position is non-exempt and part time, 24 hours a week. It is hirable at Staff Nurse I for LPN or CMA and at Staff Nurse II or III for RN.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Perform triage, clinical assessment and nursing care of students in an ambulatory care setting, as well as in a remote telehealth setting; insurance claim review and coordination of support with local insurance representative, New Student Orientation duties as assigned; coordinate care with local and telehealth providers for additional support of student’s health and mental health needs; coordinates transportation requests; compliance with operational standing orders, policies and procedures, and applicable ethical and legal standards.
  • Maintain electronic medical records within the PNC system; prepare reports and documents as assigned; regular quality assurance review of documentation.
  • Participate in SHAW operational meetings, attend DSA and College meetings; establish and maintain excellent working relationships with SHAW, DSA and College colleagues; maintain professional development and provide service to the profession. 
  • Designs, coordinates, and conducts workshops and outreaches on health-related issues.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director of Health Services and Dean of Health and Wellness.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Associate degree or equivalent from two-year college or technical school
  • One year or more of work experience
  • RN, LPN or CMA certification
  • Registered to work in the state of Iowa (or ability to become registered within 3 months of employment
  • Enjoy working with college age students to meet their needs
  • Ability to plan, organize, and execute training and programs with ease
  • Adaptive to changing needs of students, faculty, and staff
  • Strong interpersonal versatility to connect with staff, students, and faculty alike
  • Actively advocates for diversity, equity, and inclusion issues and initiatives
  • Professionalism and integrity
  • Experience with a multitude of communication styles and methods

Preferred Qualifications

  • Clinical experience, Basic Cardiac Life Support Certification
  • Experience with trauma informed care
  • Worked in a clinic or has clinical experience
