Costumer - School of Drama

Job Details

We are currently seeking a part-time costumer for the balance of the 22-23 academic year! The costumer will work with the costume studio manager, and other costume studio staff to assist in the realization of a variety of costumes and costume related items as designed by, and to the specifications of, costume designers. Following a professional model, this position will entail, but not be limited to, pattern correction, preparation and cutting of fabric and other materials for costume construction, fitting and altering costumes and costume related items, supervision and training of students in the construction of costumes and costume related items, the construction, manipulation, and creation of costumes and costume related items, and general facility, shop, machinery, and tool maintenance.

Must demonstrate:
  • Cultural Sensitivity and responsibility by modeling and supporting the school's values
  • Ability to analyze and understand issues pertaining to equity, diversity, and inclusion
  • Ability to alter and correct patterns, prepare and cut fabric for costume construction, construct and finish costumes and costume related items.
  • Ability to operate costume machinery and tools
  • Ability to work well with others and/or be part of a team
  • Ability to supervise students and projects as necessary
  • Good organizational skills, and self-motivated
  • Able to work under pressure, work on several tasks simultaneously; pay strict attention to detail; deal with repetitive and tedious tasks with a good attitude
Qualifications:
  • High School diploma or GED required; Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • 1-3 years of relevant experience, or equivalent combination of training and experience
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Ability to stoop, reach, bend at the waist, grasp and pick up objects, maneuver in cramped areas, and stand for long periods of time
  • Lift and carry over 25lbs and climb ladders

  • A valid PA driver’s license, and the ability to drive a 16’ box truck

  • Pay Range for this role: $20-24/hour
  • Part-time, approximately 25 hours/week
