Center Director (Military Operations)



Position Summary:

Under strategic guidance, provides leadership and supervision in the operation and management of a University center or associated offsite locations and programs. Leads location level growth, population specific retention efforts, quality of student services, budget control, community engagement and serves as a support liaison to the full time, associate, and adjunct faculty. Maintains comprehensive knowledge of University programs, policies, and procedures and applies this knowledge in training and developing student services support staff, maintaining institutional standards and resolving student concerns. Regularly participates and supports institutional and center level programmatic enhancement activities.

Essential Functions:
  • Develops and manages the fiscal budget associated to the campus or associated offsite programs to ensure institutional objectives are met. Ensures compliance with university policies, procedures, practices and philosophies. Adheres to Department of Education and associated programmatic accreditations.

  • Develops and monitors both short- and long-term strategic plans for the location and associated programs. Develops and implements population specific retention efforts. Guides and monitors all aspects of the location’s academics to ensure quality educational opportunities are provided to students.

  • Serves as a liaison between escalated students and proper University personnel and departments. Provides students with required resources in coordination with academics.

  • Supports student case management and conducts detailed conflict resolution with students, staff, and faculty on behalf of the Office of Student Success and the Office of Student Affairs

  • Supports assigned holistic student support intervention campaigns.

  • Develops and provides operational reports to appropriate University executives.

  • Engages in regional and programmatic outreach with local community colleges, other colleges, local governmental agencies, school districts and businesses as well as civic organizations to promote strategic partnerships.

  • Works collaboratively with college stakeholders in planning and coordinating the programmatic class scheduling.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsi bilities:
  • Supervises location or programmatic support staff.

  • Assists the Associate Vice President in the hiring, training and mentoring of Center Directors.

Requirements:

Education & Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree required; and, five (5) years’ education management or related experience; or a combination of education and experience.

Competencies/Technical/Functional Skills:
  • Microsoft Office

  • Experience with CRM and/or Student Information Systems

  • Ability to act independently in a management role.

  • Proven ability to mediate and resolve conflict, demonstrated interviewing skills, ability to handle multiple tasks in a demanding environment, higher sense of ethics, action oriented with proven ability to make decisions.

  • Proven interpersonal, oral and written communication abilities.

  • Demonstrated ability to motivate and provide leadership and training in complex areas.

  • Established problem-solving abilities and resource application.

  • Proven analytical abilities and logical thinker.

  • Able to professionally represent university in marketing and public relations activities.

  • Acts as a role model. Anticipates and plans for change. Communicates vision to the team. Ability to lead, direct and/or influence others to obtain results using a wide degree of creativity and latitude. Working knowledge in building teams.

  • Ability to understand, diagnose and plan for business issues, processes, structure, outcomes and profitability. Understands the implications of decision and actions, including a deep understanding of overall big picture of the business; able to take an idea from concept to reality.

  • Aptitude to drive towards achieving measurable and challenging goals to support organizational success. Demonstrate the ability to focus on achieving results consistent with the organization’s objectives. As a leader, develops goals based on the organization’s vision, mission and strategic goals and objectives.

  • Actively seeks opportunities to influence, build effective relationships and gain alignment with peers, functional partners and/or external partners to accomplish business objectives.

  • Deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations; apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written or oral form.

  • Advanced use of computers and Microsoft Office Suite Applications such as Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook and Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software applications used within a University setting.

  • Work independently and foster a cooperative spirit within a large and/or small team of diverse cultures and across the organization at all levels.

Travel : Travel to military bases as needed.
