Overview

Bridging Divides Initiatives (BDI) seeks a full-time Assistant/Collaboration Director to oversee BDI’s collaboration portfolio. Reporting to the Executive Director, the Collaboration Director manages BDI’s state leads and collaboration teams — including full-time Senior Research Specialists and part-time Post-Docs, Research Associates, and Interns — and serves as a core member of BDI’s leadership team, helping to shape and advance the organization’s research and policy impact.

The Collaboration Director will engage with elected and appointed officials, nonprofit and for-profit organizations, community practitioners and other stakeholders to build strategic partnerships and collaborative networks across the violence mitigation ecosystem.

The position requires a strong aptitude for long- and short-term project management, excellent communications skills and writing ability, substantial experience building partnerships with stakeholders across diverse fields, and a proven aptitude for managing day-to-day responsibilities of a fast-paced program with competing priorities.

Responsibilities

Core Responsibilities

  • Manage BDI’s partnerships and policy portfolio, including hands-on drafting and editing of public and private reports, presentations, and policy memos; balancing long term projects with demands of often rapid response requests from diverse audiences.
  • Manage BDI’s state lead programming, oversee and build out implementation of state-based community engagement and state-specific research and presentations.
  • Oversee the expansion of BDI’s de-escalation directory and programming.
  • Develop and maintain strategic partnerships and networks with key organizations around the country, including participating in national coalitions, roundtables, and other initiatives.
  • Develop and maintain key relationships with partners and experts on collaborative projects, including providing written and verbal presentations to partners and stakeholders.
  • Maintain knowledge and professional expertise of the US political violence and mitigation policy landscape and other relevant sectors.
Organizational Leadership

  • Hire, train, establish, and monitor policy and partnerships staff performance and development goals, assign duties, and conduct performance reviews.
  • Manage a team of approximately 6-8 staff, providing mentoring and coaching to support the work.
  • As part of BDI’s leadership team, build and execute new programs, identify opportunities for outreach and potential funding, help direct organization-wide activities and planning, and coordinate BDI’s policy and partnerships agenda with other core areas of programming.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • The Collaboration Director should have demonstrated experience in many or all of the following core competencies:
    • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in large coalitions and with community organizations, officials, and individuals across ideological spectrums, including experience facilitating strategic meetings with stakeholders with a range of interests and perspectives.
    • Initiative and ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced work environment; remain focused in the face of pressure, deliver against timelines, and not be intimidated by tasks/time/budget limitations.
    • Proven track record in managing multiple projects simultaneously and a demonstrated ability to work efficiently and collaboratively with both junior-level and senior-level colleagues.
    • Ability to mentor and grow staff fluency in a variety of policy-relevant research and writing skills, consistently building individual and team capacity.
    • Strong organizational skills and flexibility around changing priorities and deadlines; excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
    • Excellent writing and editing skills.
    • Proficient in using virtual work tools, including Signal, Google Drive, and Office 365.
  • 10+ years of experience in peacebuilding, violence mitigation, de-escalation or other relevant policy fields or equivalent experience.
  • Masters or PhD in relevant field.
