The Department of Sociology and Anthropology in the College of Humanities and Social Sciences at Rowan University invites applications for an open rank tenure-track faculty position (Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor) in Sociology beginning in September 1, 2023. The position is open to candidates specializing broadly in social inequality/stratification, particularly in relation to social justice and human rights issues (i.e., wrongful convictions and re-entry issues, gender and racial disparities). A familiarity with using a social justice lens to conduct qualitative research is required. Applicants must demonstrate a strong commitment to excellence in both research and teaching. The successful candidate will be expected to seek external funding for research and participate in departmental initiatives including collaborative research, teaching and learning projects. Applicants must produce high quality scholarly research, teach undergraduate and graduate courses of multiple modalities (online, hybrid and in person), and be committed to department, college and university.
Applicants must have a PhD in Sociology in-hand by September 1, 2023.
The position also requires the candidate to have:
• Clear and robust research agenda, with history of publications and grant applications;
• Evidence of effective teaching and mentoring undergraduate and/or graduate students,
• Professional engagement in local, state, regional, national, or international organizations and university service.
The Sociology and Anthropology Department offers a supportive environment to students wishing to pursue undergraduate degrees and certificates in Sociology, Anthropology, Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Management, Human Services, and developing graduate and undergraduate degrees in Social Work.
