Position, Department: Part-time Librarian, Academic Affairs

Type of Position: Part-time Temporary, Non-Exempt

Work Schedule, Hours per week: Tues. & Wed. 4:30pm-9:00pm, Bi-monthly Sun. 1:00pm-5:00pm

Pay Grade/Pay Range: 19.97-24.96 *Actual pay depends on qualifications

Position Summary: Responsible for identifying and interpreting user needs. Provide Reference Service helping patrons to identify, access, and interpret information. Reference Service is provided in person, e-mail, chat, and by appointment. Instruct students in library resources and information literacy in a classroom setting. Works with the library team assisting in duties related to archives, interlibrary loan, collection development, digital projects, or copyright.

Required Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Library Science from an ALA accredited institution
  • Experience with automated library systems
  • Experience searching electronic databases and the Internet
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Demonstrated commitment to and understanding of the mission of a comprehensive community college

    Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in an academic setting
  • Teaching or bibliographic instruction experience
  • Experience using Learning Management Systems and Microsoft Office applications

    Position Details - Job duties include but are not limited to:

    Reference Service - Provide reference services using a variety of mediums and sources and provide assistance with technologies used for accessing research. Performance is acceptable when:

    a. Exhibits knowledge about databases, web, ebook and print collections, LibGuides, LMS, and Microsoft Office.

    b. Exhibits knowledge about computers, scanners, copiers and printers including PaperCut printing.

    c. Exhibits knowledge of Inter Library Loan service and/or ability to facilitate acquiring materials for patrons through ILL.

    Library Instruction - Provide library instruction to individuals and to classes. Performance is acceptable when:

    a. Reference interviews are conducted via in-person, phone, text, chat, and email.

    b. Collaboration with professors is conducted to provide library-centered instruction.

    Library Teamwork - Provide reference desk coverage both independently and in cooperation with other library staff. Performance is acceptable when:

    a. Shows ability to work independently.

    b. Shows ability to work with colleagues to provide excellent public service.

    Statistics and Records - Keep reference and library instruction statistics. Performance is acceptable when:

    a. Reference statistics are recorded and managed in LibAnswers.

    b. Classes are scheduled in LibCal for library instruction.

    Collection Development - Acquire and build organized collections. Performance is acceptable when:

    a. Creditable, diverse materials and information in print, non-print, and electronic resources are identified and requested to be acquired.

    b. Materials acquired support the college curriculum, all college programs, and contribute to student learning and problem solving.
