Ottawa University seeks a Founding Director for its Master of Arts in Counseling (MAC) Program, located in Overland Park, Kansas. This program will be an expansion of Ottawa University’s MAC program in Phoenix, Arizona.  The University invites applications for a full-time faculty/program Director position.  Candidates must have a Doctorate in Counseling and 3-5 years of teaching and academic program leadership experience. Successful candidates will have related professional or academic preparation in one or more areas found in Ottawa University’s graduate-level Counseling concentrations, including Addictions Counseling, Expressive Arts Therapy, Gerocounseling, and the Treatment of Trauma, as well as Abuse and Deprivation. The MAC graduate program will be taught in blended online and ground format, designed around practical application and mentoring. The Director will be required to complete all planning and development initiatives that are necessary to build the new Counseling program on the Overland Park campus of Ottawa University, in cooperation with Ottawa’s Phoenix, Arizona Counseling program.    

 

Responsibilities: 

  • Leading faculty recruitment and ongoing program growth and development   Advocating scholarship and intellectual engagement (faculty and students)  Managing program financial and material resources   Planning and leading Counseling workforce development  
  • Teach counseling graduate courses   Develop and supervise internships and practicums   Become knowledgeable of rules and regulations regarding Counseling in Kansas  Develop and maintain an active professional development agenda and lead program community relations  Actively participate in student recruitment and retention, marketing, program-related networking, and inter-University Counseling Program administrative activities  
  • Contribute to the mission of Ottawa University through performance, service to the University’s community, and membership on committees 

 

Qualifications:  

Ottawa University seeks a motivated, dynamic, and highly organized leader. The Director should understand contemporary Counseling issues and accreditation/regulatory requirements that influence Counselor education. In addition, the Director should recognize and appreciate the demands of high-quality adult and traditional higher education and be dedicated to an online academic program development and expansion, as well as institute effective strategies for enrollment growth. 

Qualifications include: 

  • Doctorate in Counseling
  • Licensed or license eligible in the State of Kansas
  • 3-5 years of teaching, academic program leadership, and academic program development
  • Commitment to the mission of Ottawa University and exhibit evidence of intercultural competencies
  • Ability to demonstrate teaching excellence and online instruction ability
