The Department of History in the College of Arts and Sciences invites applications for a tenured position at the rank of Associate or Full Professor of 20th Century United States History. Any subfield is welcome. We seek outstanding applicants with a demonstrated record of excellence in research, as well as a commitment to teaching and mentoring. Success in mentoring underrepresented students and an interest in advancing the mission of Howard University is highly desired. 

The Department of History boasts a nationally ranked graduate program, internationally and nationally renowned faculty, and a strong undergraduate program. We offer BA, MA, and PhD degrees in History of the United States, Africa, African Diaspora, and Latin America and the Caribbean.

Required Qualifications:

  • An earned doctorate in History from an accredited institution; Record of scholarship, teaching, and professional service commensurate with the rank of Associate or Full Professor of History; and
  • Effective written and verbal communication and organizational skills.
  • A record of fellowships, grants, or other external-funding would be an asset.
