Job Description Summary:

To establish and maintain a teaching, learning, and working environment where faculty, staff, and students are appropriately served within available resources on a college wide basis; to provide instructional leadership; to ensure the effective administration of assigned disciplines; and to promote instructional goals and objectives conducive to student success. To provide oversight and support of assigned programs in Computer Science and Information Technology dean area.

Job Description:

Essential Duties
  • Provide strategic direction, planning leadership and informed, evidence-based decision-making for the division. In doing so, the Dean will help shape the division’s future and articulate and direct a compelling vision that will inspire engagement, teaching excellence, and innovation.
  • Serve as primary divisional liaison with the regional information technology sector, including a wide variety of companies and associations. Maintain current, relevant industry expertise to develop and deliver market-driven curricula and educational experiences aligned with the current employment landscape and forecasts. Provide leadership in developing, implementing, and maintaining curriculum and programs that respond to community needs, prepare students for success and meets the external requirements of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC), the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB), and applicable specialized accrediting organizations.
  • Lead student success efforts for the division. Knowledgeable in innovative teaching and learning methods and modalities. Promotes educational strategies that support quality, innovation and the use of technology in teaching and learning. Familiar with diversity, equity and inclusion principles and implementation. Leads efforts to hire diverse faculty and staff.
  • Familiar with information technology career pathways and stackable credentials, from CBO based entry level programs to Non-credit Certificates to Credit Certificate and Associate Degree to Applied Bachelor’s degrees.
  • Exceptional executive presence, business acumen and influencing skills.
  • Responsible for progress towards graduation and retention metrics for the division.
  • Provide leadership in addressing and resolving student complaints, grade appeals, academic dishonesty appeals, faculty complaints and grievances, employee complaints against supervisor, or other student, staff, or faculty issues, where appropriate.
  • Ensure consistent and appropriate application of administrative rules within assigned academic areas, including overseeing faculty evaluation processes, hiring of faculty and staff, course schedule development, planning and budgeting, safety, facilities, equipment and software needs, selection, supervision and evaluation of department chairs and assistant deans, and preparation of reports as required. Supervises and evaluates support staff. Initiates and manages special projects and assignments. Participates in shared governance through service on collegewide councils and committees.
  • Ensures that all faculty within assigned academic areas are appropriately qualified. Ensures that programs comply with regulatory requirements and/or accreditation standards where appropriate. Convenes advisory committees, works with Grants Development Office, and maintains community partnerships in support of programmatic goals.
  • Provides leadership and advocacy for the assigned area(s) of study, including communication, student and faculty engagement, joint efforts of instruction and student services to support student success, and community-building with external partners.

  • Demonstrated ability to present information and summary reports internally and to the public.
  • Understanding of the community college philosophy and mission.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle the demands and Sirequirements of senior-level management in higher education.
  • Demonstrated expertise in effective and ethical leadership, including an understanding of Servant-Leadership.
  • Demonstrated connection to businesses and industry in the Computer Science/Information Technology field.

* Five years related work experience including supervision/management.

Preferred Work Experience
* Supervision/management in a higher education academic environment.

Required Education

* Master's degree. As required for faculty. Must meet SACSCOC faculty qualifications for the subject(s) areas taught. See the current year Faculty Qualifications Table located at www.austincc.edu/facstaff/faculty-credentials. Experience cannot be substituted for required, applicable educational level.

Physical Requirements
* Work is performed in a standard office or similar environment.
* Subject to standing, walking, sitting, bending, reaching, pushing, and pulling.
