Position Summary

Adjunct faculty are valued as an integral and vital component of the University's teaching staff, providing unique and valuable perspectives and contributions. We have an excellent opportunity for Adjunct Faculty to join our highly engaged teaching staff in the Department of Professional Studies. To teach in this program, candidates must have an advanced or terminal degree in Homeland Security, Emergency Management, or a related field. In this role, the successful candidate will revise existing course content and instruct students seeking to gain theoretical knowledge and practical skills in our BS and MS HSEM (Homeland Security and Emergency Management) degree program. Adjunct Faculty may also be engaged as Subject Matter Experts in revising course content.

Note: This part-time Adjunct Faculty position will be teaching 4- and 8-week courses in San Diego.

Essential Job Duties:
  • Lead classroom sessions on-site and/or online according to university policies.
  • Provide expertise in assigned content area by maintaining current knowledge in the field.
  • Respond to student needs in a timely fashion or typically within 48 hours.
  • Provide substantive feedback to students, grade assignments, and post grades.
  • Participate in online class discussion boards.
  • Emphasize student-centered learning by promoting student inquiries and encouraging participation in their own learning.
  • Maintain a positive, safe, student-centric learning environment.
Required Qualifications:
  • Master's Degree in Homeland Security, Emergency Management, Criminal Justice, or a related field.
  • 1 year of experience in teaching Homeland Security and Emergency Management.
  • Professional experience in Homeland Security or Emergency Management.
  • Must have experience in developing course content.
  • Must reside and be eligible to work in the United States.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Terminal degree (PhD) Homeland Security, Emergency Management, Criminal Justice, or a related field.
  • 2+ years of experience in teaching HSEM.
