Research Assistant

Job Description:

The Carney Institute for Brain Science is looking for a Research Assistant to engage with a highly collaborative group led by Dr. Arturo Andrade. The research is focused on molecular and cellular mechanisms that regulate important aspects of nervous system functions in health and disease including learning, memory, and pain. The Andrade lab utilizes mouse genetic models to addresses significant questions about brain and nervous system function. The Research Assistant will support the Andrade Lab with experiments involving mouse genetic models including mouse survival surgeries, and behavior.

The Research Assistant will have the ability to perform these duties independently but with regular guidance from the principal investigator and laboratory members.

This is a fixed term position with a current end date of 9/30/2024 which may be extended based upon available funding.

Major Responsibilities:

• Mouse survival surgeries (40%) - Perform experiments involving survival surgeries in mouse brain.
• Behavior (40%) - Performing behavioral experiments involving mouse genetic models
• Data analysis and manuscript preparation (20%) - General data analysis, preparation of graphs for publication, and support in reviewing manuscript drafts. Support the training of undergraduate and graduate students in some experiments in the lab.

Job Qualifications

Education and Experience

• BA or BSc in the field of Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Neuroscience, Genetics, or related field (required)
• 1-2 years of related lab experience as undergraduate research laboratory or equivalent (required)
• Course work in genetics, cell biology, biochemistry, neuroscience, statistics (required)
• Experience with mouse behavior (preferred)
