The University of Montevallo, Alabama’s Public Liberal Arts College, invites applications for the 12-month, tenure-track position of Instruction and User Experience Librarian. The individual in this position will teach information literacy across the curriculum and work closely with colleagues to implement innovative teaching and programming for library services and provide instruction sessions for both on-campus and distance education courses. This librarian will also develop and implement programs, activities, projects, and spaces to improve the overall experience of library users. Additional responsibilities include active participation in providing reference services, collection development, evaluation of library services, and library strategic planning. All library faculty are expected to engage in scholarly research and university service.

Carmichael Library holds over 200,000 catalogued items, provides access to more than 130 online databases, and supports a robust physical and digital collection of university archives and local historical information. The Library is an evolving center for academic support and student engagement and houses a state-of-the-art information literacy instruction classroom, as well as a Digital Media Lab and 3D Print Lab, the University’s Learning Enrichment Center, and Information Technology Service’s Solution Center. The University has affirmed the importance of library instruction by integrating information literacy into both the General Education and major curricula, and librarians are full partners in the information literacy program and pedagogy.

Founded in 1896, the University of Montevallo is a member of the Council of Public Liberal Arts Colleges (COPLAC), a national alliance of leading liberal arts colleges in the public sector. With an enrollment of approximately 2,500 students, Montevallo offers baccalaureate and master’s degree programs with an emphasis on high quality education and innovative teaching. Requirements

The successful candidate will be excited about working closely with students, faculty and staff in a collegial liberal arts environment. This individual will be an excellent communicator who is comfortable teaching in a classroom setting, working with small groups, and assisting students one-on-one, in person as well as online. Familiarity with contemporary practices in library instruction and information literacy assessment practices is essential. A Master’s degree from an ALA-accredited program is required by the anticipated start date. New professionals are encouraged to apply.
