The Bureau of Business and Economic Research (BBER) invites applications for a Director of Marketing and Communications to join their team.

The responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to:
  • Organizing and directing the operations of the marketing of the Bureau of Business and Economic Research
  • Producing the electronic and print publications of the BBER
  • Working collaboratively with the leadership, the research professionals, and the staff of the BBER to create the messaging and the marketing strategy for BBER research products, including our public events, publications, newsletters, research monographs and other forms of professional engagement
  • Representing the BBER in a wide variety of local, state, and national venues
  • Responsible for the visibility, effectiveness, and professionalism of the BBER’s print and online publications
  • Creating, developing, and publishing content for the BBER’s websites
  • Copyediting and proofreading all web content and research reports
  • Developing, designing, managing, and producing all Bureau publications and promotional material, including both print and electronic media
  • Serving as managing editor of the Montana Business Quarterly (MBQ), the BBER’s award-winning magazine
  • Working with the Event Planning Contractor to ensure that the BBER’s public events, most notably its long-running Economic Outlook Seminars conducted in the winter of each year in cities across the state, are successful
  • Maintaining databases associated with BBER events and publications to inform and evaluate outreach and marketing strategies
  • Serving as the point of contact between the BBER and the electronic and print media
  • Continuing to innovate and grow the audience for BBER’s social media channels as a means of expanding the visibility of its research and expertise
This position requires the incumbent to develop a working knowledge of Montana media organizations and contacts; develop a working knowledge of University printing and publishing practices and procedure guidelines, as well as UM policies and procedures regarding payments and financial record-keeping; and develop a sound knowledge of BBER research and capabilities to inform the external audience.

Position Details
  • Position is full-time, 1.0 FTE, MUS Contract and includes a comprehensive and competitive benefits package including Insurance package, mandatory retirement plan, partial tuition waiver, and wellness program
  • Salary for this position is $58,000 - $62,000 per year commensurate with qualifications
Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, or related field
  • Three (3) years of related work experience in marketing and communications
  • Demonstrated proficiency in writing, AP style editing, graphic design, and printing production principles and practices
  • Experience and proficiency communicating research findings.
  • The ability to write and communicate technical and nontechnical information verbally in a clear and engaging way.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with written and verbal communication, social media, Adobe Creative Suite packages, content management systems, database systems, and other relevant software
  • Exceptional writing skills under tight deadlines
  • Extensive experience in formulating, conducting, and managing marketing initiatives, both individually and in collaboration with others
  • Experience juggling multiple assignments and internal clients
  • A demonstrated record of creativity and success in graphic design
  • A strong commitment to quality and consistency to support and deliver products and services that meet the BBER’s standards
Preferred Qualifications
  • Five (5) years of experience in a decision-making role in marketing and communications
  • Broad knowledge of business and the Montana economy
  • Expertise in Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, Wordpress, Excel, PowerPoint and other media production and graphic design software
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Montana media organizations and contacts
  • Proficiency in web design and graphic design programs, including content management platforms
