The University of Delaware Library, Museums and Press seeks an equity-minded professional to join the Human Resources and Organizational Development Team in the Office of the Vice-Provost for Libraries and Museums. The successful candidate will develop and lead impactful learning and organization development efforts, in support of the Library's strategic foundations of inclusive excellence and organizational effectiveness. This includes developing sustainable and goal-oriented staff learning, providing leadership for an equitable talent management program, and contributing to organizational development initiatives.

Reporting to the Deputy University Librarian and Director of Organizational Learning, major responsibilities include:
  • Manage the development, delivery and evaluation of the Library's professional development program in support of organizational goals. Conduct regular needs assessments, identify, design, and/or promote learning opportunities; provide informal coaching, structured training, and facilitate activities to strengthen individual, management, and team effectiveness. Work closely with Library leadership and committees to identify needs and plan and develop learning and organizational development initiatives for departments, units, and individuals.
  • Participate in and provide leadership for the talent management program, including employee recruitment, orientation, retention, and separation processes. Serve as ex-officio member of search committees to facilitate equitable and effective hiring practices. Evaluate and enhance practices including onboarding, training, performance appraisals, and exit and stay interviews. Participate in HR program evaluation and contribute to strategic workforce planning.
  • Facilitate employee relations and performance concerns, involving the Deputy University Librarian and Director of Organizational Learning and the Vice-Provost for Libraries and Museums as necessary. Provide informal coaching and structured training and facilitate activities to strengthen individual, management and team effectiveness.
  • Advance and provide leadership for organizational Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) initiatives. Serve as ex-officio member of the Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, Accessibility, Anti Racism, Social Justice (IDEAS) Committee and active participant in the University's diversity network. Support goal setting, data gathering and assessment of EDI efforts in support of Library values.
  • Coordinate early and pre-career programs including the Pauline A. Young Residency Program, internships and practicums, and graduate assistants. Support staff mentoring and career development programs and initiatives.
  • Participate in the planning and implementation of library services and operations as a member of the Library Management Council.
  • Facilitate the student employee program including student recruitment and orientation, supervisor development, and coordination of student employee events and recognition.
  • Demonstrate commitment to active professional development to maintain currency on trends related to university needs, technology and library and museum services.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Graduate degree in library science, organizational development, or other related field.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of human resources/organizational development experience or experience working in libraries, museums, or other cultural heritage or research institutions with evidence of increasing responsibility in human resources/organizational development.
  • Knowledge of organizational development and change management processes and best practices.
  • Knowledge of adult learning theory, instructional design principles, and assessment of learning and experience leveraging technological tools to improve learning.
  • Effective presentation and facilitation skills.
  • Experience discussing and presenting on sensitive topics and EDI values to diverse audiences.
  • Strong interpersonal and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects and objectives at the same time.
  • Ability to work effectively with faculty, staff, and student population from diverse backgrounds and cultures.
  • Commitment to professional growth and record of ongoing professional development.
  • Previous successful supervisory, management, or leadership experience with a demonstrated commitment to mentoring, training, and staff development, preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience working collaboratively in a decentralized academic environment with multiple constituency groups and leadership levels, preferred.
  • Familiarity with recruitment processes and emerging trends in research libraries, museums, and/or related fields, preferred.
  • Demonstrates an understanding and consideration of the differing needs and concerns of individuals with varying identities, cultures and backgrounds.

Appointment: Appointment based on relevant professional experience and expected at the rank of Senior Assistant Librarian, pay grade 30E (3-8 years) or Associate Librarian, pay grade 31E (8+ years).
