ABOUT UNDERGRADUATE ADMISSIONS

Undergraduate Admissions supports outreach and recruitment strategy, admission policy and processes, and yield initiatives for domestic and international first-year, transfer, adult and non-degree students enrolling on the Athens campus and in OHIO Online programs. The Undergraduate Admissions team is comprised of more than 50 full-time staff members, including a talented recruitment team based in Athens, as well as a growing team of strategically positioned staff members in key markets throughout the U.S. and around the world. Undergraduate Admissions supports colleges, schools, and departments in the pursuit of academically specific recruitment and admission goals.

LEADERSHIP PROFILE & POSITION SUMMARY

Position Summary: Reporting to the Assistant Vice President of Enrollment Management & Executive Director of Undergraduate Admissions and based on the Athens campus, the Director of Outreach and Recruitment serves on the Undergraduate Admissions leadership team. This position assists the AVP/Executive Director in designing and assessing the strategies and tactics used to recruit, admit, and enroll a diverse entering class which is in alignment with institutional enrollment goals. The Director position supervises multiple teams charged with successfully executing data-driven strategies to achieve the operational objectives necessary to meeting the institution's targeted enrollment goals. The Director serves in a key leadership role and assists in the management of Undergraduate Admissions staff and operations, as well as represent the AVP/Executive Director as deputy in their absence as needed.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Recruitment, Yield, Visits and Events: Serves on the Undergraduate Admissions leadership team and collaborates with executive management in the development of a data driven, strategic recruitment plan. Develops recruitment and yield plans supporting the enrollment of various student populations, including non-degree, dual enrollment, first-year, transfer, and international students across all of OHIO's campuses. Oversees the long-term planning and implementation of initiatives essential to achieving University enrollment goals. Assesses recruitment and yield activities for effectiveness and provides recommendations for continuation or replacement of those activities. Analyzes landscape to craft narratives and reports that aid in crafting strategic directions.

Manages the development of strategic recruitment and yield travel plans for multiple teams, utilizing creative and innovative approaches to maximize effectiveness of resources. Prioritizes the fulfillment of student inquiries through leveraging people and technology resources such as the office's powerful constituent relationship management tool. Serves as a manager and leader of file review of targeted student populations, ensuring equitable and ethical consideration of all candidates and consistent and timely admission decisions to all applicants.

In consultation with the AVP/Executive Director, partners with designated campus and academic leadership on the effective utilization of recruitment and yield strategies, resources, and personnel who are focused on the supporting specific enrollment goals. Partners with colleagues within the office and across the University to implement recruitment and yield plans, and assesses the effectiveness of initiatives. Develops and maintains strong relationships with key external counterparts and stakeholders through regular communication and interactions.

Management, Supervision and Training: Supervises multiple teams of recruitment staff, such as admissions advisors based in Undergraduate Admissions, assistant directors of recruitment in select academic colleges, and/or regional recruitment managers on the regional campuses. Trains staff on best practices and external regulations related to the field. Guides staff in the development and attainment of enrollment goals utilizing a territory or constituent management model. Reviews plans for effective use of resources and data in determining and implementing overall strategies and practices. Forecasts and monitors staff budgetary expenditures. In consultation with the AVP/Executive Director, oversees hiring and performance management processes for team members.

Serves as a member of the recruitment team in Undergraduate Admissions. Participates in the day-to-day management of Undergraduate Admissions' engagement with prospective students through monitoring of timely inquiry fulfillment, customer service and management of daily office coverage responsibilities. Represents the University both on- and off-campus to a wide variety of constituents, including prospective students and their families, secondary and postsecondary school personnel, community-based organizations, and other individuals or organizations involved in the college selection process. Counsels and advises constituents on a range of admission and enrollment processes.

Provides oversight for office activities as necessary. Assists the AVP/Executive Director through the development, training, and management of office personnel. Represents the AVP/Executive Director as deputy in their absence as needed.

Evaluation of Admissions Materials: Maintains thorough knowledge of trends in the field of admissions and advises constituents on the breadth and depth of opportunities available at OHIO. Evaluates applications and supplemental materials for the purposes of making admission decisions. Conducts thorough, holistic, selective review of an applicant's candidacy. Determines necessary documentation to support an admission decision and recommends appropriate alternative pathways when admission cannot be offered. Plans and implements recruitment activities for an assigned territory or population, including programs and travel activities around Ohio and nationally.

Minimum Qualifications

Master's degree is required by start date. Applicants with a Bachelor's degree by start date and equivalent experience will also be considered.

Minimum of 6 years of related work experience.

Minimum of 3 years of management experience.

Pay Rate: Based on extensive benchmarking data, the Director for Outreach and Recruitment position is mapped to Pay Grade CA&P 18 at OHIO, with a target hiring range of $58,972 - $68,556. The exact base salary for the selected candidate will be negotiable, commensurate with education and experience, and competitive in the field within the context of similarly situated positions at public universities nationally.
