Job Description

The Montgomery College, School of Education, is currently accepting applications for a full-time faculty member starting January 2023. We are seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated educator who exhibits a high degree of professionalism, a strong commitment to the empowerment of students, and demonstrates the ability to motivate and educate in an engaging manner using culturally relevant pedagogy. The candidate should demonstrate diversity of thought and experiences addressing issues of social justice to educate the next generation of teacher leaders in the Associate of Arts in Teaching (AAT) degree program. The AAT Degree is a transferable degree to Maryland’s four-year colleges and universities. This position is part of a collective bargaining unit.

The successful candidate will be committed to teaching in a multi-cultural, two-year environment, and welcome the opportunity to work with students with diverse learning abilities and have an understanding and commitment to student success.

Duties include but are not limited to:
  • Teach courses collegewide and across the Early Childhood Education/Special Education, Elementary Education/Special Education, and Secondary Education.
  • Provide academic advising for students in Early Childhood Education/Special Education, Elementary Education/Special Education, and/or Secondary Education.
  • Planning and preparing (development of instructional material, preparation of course syllabi, writing assignments, exams, etc.), presentation, and coordination of classroom instruction and related activities.
  • Some subject areas may also require specific professional credentials and or levels of experience/training
  • Assume a key role in mapping new student success program development for culturally and linguistically diverse learners
  • Generate and develop strategic partnerships with the local school district, university, government, and/or diverse community organizations;
  • Prepare and assessment of curriculum in the program
  • Contribute to the profession and/or discipline, both nationally and internationally
  • Develop collaborations and/or partnerships with faculty, other community colleges and the state universities of Maryland.
Required Qualifications:
  • Masters in Teaching: Education or Curriculum & Instruction with certification in areas of Early Childhood Education; Elementary Education; Special Education; ESOL; Educational Leadership; or Education Administration.
  • Teaching experience in PreK-12 settings
  • Teaching experience at a community college or university
  • Proficiency with and ability to use a Learning Management System (LMS) and other web-based instructional technology to facilitate learning in a web-enhanced environment.
  • Demonstrated experience teaching using a variety of delivery methods, online resources and technology applications across the curriculum.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Faculty members are expected to have access to a personal computer with virus protection that can connect to the internet outside of the work location (i.e., office, classroom, college campus). Montgomery College (MC) provides an MC e-mail account and access to the learning platform, password-protected faculty sections of the website, college listservs, and other faculty communications tools
  • Eligible applicants must currently be authorized to work in the United States and not require employer visa sponsorship
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Doctorate in Education with concentration in Early Childhood Education; Elementary; Educational Leadership; or Educational Administration.
  • Current or Past Teacher Certification in Early Childhood Education; Elementary Education; Special Education; or Administrator Certification
  • Two or more years of part-time or full-time college level teaching experience
  • Experience in distance delivery and other instructional modalities
  • Demonstrated ability to teach in a multicultural setting using culturally relevant pedagogy
  • Demonstrated ability to integrate technology into course delivery
  • Demonstrated ability to advise and support college students
  • Willingness and flexibility to teach course sections as needed
Hiring Range: $62,319 to $91,218.
