Job Description

Montgomery College, Rockville Campus, has an immediate need for a Full-Time Job Opportunity & Development Specialist. In the Adult ESOL and Literacy Grant Program under the Adult ESOL and Basic Skills for College and Careers Unit. The work schedule is Monday through Friday, 8:30am – 5pm with some evenings and weekends required. This position is non-bargaining, exempt, Grade 27, and is grant funded through June 30, 2023 with the possibility of extension.

Duties include but are not limited to:
  • Student Support - Maintain ongoing relationships with program participants and develop students supports that lead to employment in target industry.
  • Participate in outreach and recruitment activities by coordinating and attending job fairs.
  • Collaborate with career coach to develop internships and other work and learn experiences for learners.
  • Business Engagement - Initiate and maintain ongoing contacts with business and industry representatives and job placement/training agencies to promote programs for participant placement.
  • Interface with businesses to identify new career pathways.
  • Work with new and established business partners to expand on and develop internship and other relevant opportunities for participants, such as group interviews, site visits, and mentor programs.
  • Research Internet, newspapers, agencies, and other resources for job leads; locates jobs for participants who have successfully completed training programs.
  • Collect data from employers related to job requirements; matches job skills with applicant qualifications; refer qualified applicants to employers and conduct necessary follow-up when applicants are placed in positions.
  • Collaborate with career coach in order to track program graduates and assist learners in their transition to the workforce and to future educational opportunities.
  • Monitor participant performance on the job and counsel participants when job performance is not satisfactory.
  • Work with employed participants to improve job performance and gain skill upgrades in order to advance on career pathway.
  • Provide job retention and upgrade supports including assisting participants in communicating with supervisors, identifying additional training options.
Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in counseling, career development, business administration, education, or a related field.
  • At least three (3) years of experience in the placement of: culturally diverse student populations who have little/no employment experience into the appropriate jobs; working with students, faculty, employers and community organizations in identifying available job opportunities; facilitating workshops on all aspects of the job search process including speaking in public; making presentations and conducting workshops.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Minimum of two (2) years’ experience working with at-risk populations and students with low basic skills and/or English language skills.
Hiring Range: $61,529 to $79,977 (annually). Initial salary placement is based on candidate experience and internal equity, new hires are typically placed between the minimum and midpoint of the salary range.
