Job Summary

The Technician orders materials in all formats, including print and electronic. The Technician assists in the management of daily acquisitions operations with primary responsibility for the flow of materials, including placing, receiving, verifying, and organizing orders.

Essential Functions

Order materials in all formats (print, electronic, audiovisual, etc.) through ProQuest, Amazon, and other providers using Drexel University Procurement tools and policies.

Proactively monitor status of ordered materials and communicate with vendor representatives as needed

Process orders for course reserves requests through reserves management system; create rush orders as needed

Establish initial bibliographic records at point of order

Maintain accurate acquisitions records, working closely with the DUL finance team to ensure timely invoicing

Receive (and claim, if applicable) print serials and books, audiovisual materials, and other physical resources

Other responsibilities may include:
  • Assist in providing proactive and responsive maintenance of online resource access points and holdings data
  • Assist with physical processing of collection materials (spine labels, barcodes, security strips, etc.); repairing damaged materials; and preparing, shipping, and receiving materials for the bindery (primarily print journals)
  • Assist in withdrawing and discarding deselected collection materials along with selectors and other staff
  • Schedule, train, and direct DUL student workers
  • Serve as Manager on Duty at DUL service desks, overseeing the functioning of the service desk and handling a variety of situations related to access, facilities, and circulation
  • Monitor and respond to client queries via online Library Assistance chat
  • Serve as a member of Libraries' Essential Services on-site team
Required Qualifications
  • A minimum of an Associate’s Degree or Equivalent
  • One year Experience
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Possess initiative, attention to detail, and good judgment
  • Demonstrated ability to work with and adapt to new technologies
  • Experience with MS Office suite
  • Able to work effectively both independently and within a team environment in a dynamic matrixed work setting
  • Demonstrated commitment to fostering a diverse, equitable, inclusive, and welcoming work environment
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working in a library
  • Experience with library systems and applications such as Alma, Rialto, and Ares
  • Cataloging/metadata experience
Physical Demands
  • Typically sitting at a desk/table
  • Lifting 50lbs (less than or equal to)
