Brief Summary of Work for this Position

Electric Service Supervisor is responsible for coordinating and navigating responsibility for Electrical Section administration. This position may lead in planning, scheduling, design, leadership, supervision, training, budgeting and installation, maintenance and repair of primary and secondary electrical distribution systems, electrical equipment, lighting, fixtures and related components; and provides temporary installation of electrical power for public and university functions throughout campus. Submits purchase requisitions to ensure availability of materials and equipment to support work. Evaluates electrical products. Standardizes products and procedures. Organizes, trains, leads electrical crews to install and maintain campus electrical power distributions, facility electrical devices and systems, university alarm systems, emergency generators and other electrical powered systems. This position has been designated as mandatory personnel for the University and may be required to report to work during adverse weather conditions even though the University may be operating on an alternate schedule. This position may delegate and personally work with snow, ice and/or debris removal under the direction of a supervisor.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

High school diploma or equivalency and two years of experience in trade(s) areas assigned; or equivalent combination of training and experience.

Preferred education, professional skills and experience

Minimum Experience Required:

Six years of progressive experience in electrical underground power distribution, general electrical maintenance, and two years of electric-related supervisory experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Knowledge and Skills Required:

The position must possess exceptional electrical trade knowledge and skills with an emphasis on underground power distribution. Strong working knowledge of National Electrical Code and NC State Building Code. Ability to properly use and train on multimeters, ampmeters, meggars, and other trade test equipment. Must be able to perform/supervise wiring, conduit installation, underground utility repair, splicing and terminating up to 12,500 Volts, electrical troubleshooting, and fixture repair/replacement. Ability to diagnose faults and perform/supervise corrective repairs on primary/secondary distribution wiring, transformers, switchgear, main and sub-service panels, and complete building electrical distribution wiring, conduits, fixtures, and lighting. The position is required to review of plans, monitor work, evaluate code and standard applications, and inspect most electrical work performed on campus. The position must have a general knowledge of techniques and principles involved in planning and budgeting for all electrical maintenance. Must be able to develop a workable budget within guidelines provided and establish long and short-term plans for campus electrical utilities. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with administrative superiors and subordinate employees. Develop processes and procedures to ensure work meets applicable building/electrical codes at a minimum.

A valid NC drivers license or be able to obtain one within two weeks of employment.
