Job Description Summary
Reporting to the Creative Director, the Digital Designer is responsible for supporting the creative efforts for the departments and staff throughout the Wharton School, both online and offline. As a member of the central Marketing and Communications Team (MarComm), this role will be accountable for coordinating and managing the execution of design projects while monitoring brand compliance, in all forms of brand distribution for print, web, and video. Sample projects include, but are not limited to logo design, advertisements, newsletters, brochures, programs, postcards, event invitations, environmental signage, website design mockup (programming not necessary, but a plus), video editing, and other related special projects. The ideal candidate for this position will have 2+ years of professional experience and demonstrate excellent design skills for both print and digital.

Job Description

Reporting to the Creative Director, the Digital Designer is responsible for supporting the creative efforts for the departments and staff throughout the Wharton School. As a member of the central Marketing and Communications Team (MarComm), this role will be accountable for coordinating and managing the execution of creative and content projects while monitoring brand compliance, in all forms of brand distribution (i.e., print, web, and video). On a routine basis, this role will collaborate with colleagues across the School to ensure that graphic solutions meet stakeholders' needs while appealing visually, promoting the brand effectively, and meeting usability standards. Accordingly, this role will prepare files and manage relationships with vendors, coordinating quotes and production schedules to ensure high-quality production of materials.

You will be a good fit for this position if you place high value on the organization of your files by using a taxonomy throughout your work, use a reoccurring process for working with your clients to maximize the communication and relationship for each projects, value a good working relationship with your colleagues and clients, think strategically by always looking ahead in the calendar in order to anticipate opportunities and pitfalls, apply good judgement and justification to each design project using your Gestalt principles, and have a love for the purity of foundational typography skills.

Sample projects include, but are not limited to logo design, advertisements, newsletters, brochures, programs, postcards, event invitations, environmental signage, website design mockup (programming not necessary, but a plus), video editing, and other related special projects.

The ideal candidate for this position will have 3+ years of professional experience and demonstrate excellent project management skills and design skills for print, web and video. Applicants MUST include a cover letter and portfolio (link or PDF).

Key Duties
  • Project Management: Manage production and tracking of communications requests with internal and external resources. Maintain project request intake process. Manage project traffic through all stages of pre-production and production, ensuring that designs effectively meet project objectives, schedules, budgets, and deadlines.
  • Graphic design production: Not limited to social and web graphics, video, motion graphics, booklets, brochures, flyers, advertisements, invitations, direct mail, postcards, environmental signage, presentations, and various promotional materials.
  • Digital and UX production: Not limited to website sitemaps and wireframes, landing page design, headers, footers, icons, navigational systems, research, writing, email graphics
  • Brand management: Develop Wharton's visual brand assets. Oversee licensing and trademark requests by approving, denying, or modifying the brand for individual promotional items. Analyze market trends and continually evolve assets and formulate strategies to work effectively in developing digital environments.


Qualifications:
  • Associates Degree required; Bachelors Degree preferred

  • 3-4 years of design experience demonstrating design fundamentals and creative conceptual composition
  • Must have demonstrated experience in project management and tracking of communications requests
  • Must be willing to take on responsibility and handle multiple projects at a time
  • Must have a customer service attitude for dealing with clients and vendors
  • Effective communicator (presentation, organization, verbal, written)
  • Self-starter and motivated learner
  • Demonstrated experience in print design
  • Demonstrated experience in presentation design
  • Demonstrated experience in video editing and motion design
  • Understanding of UX design principals
  • Working knowledge of HTML and CSS (WordPress experience preferred or an equivalent CMS)
  • Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite and MS Office
  • Passionate about design, web trends, technology, and user experience
  • Must be able to prep files for print and communicate clearly with printers
  • Must meet deadlines and be able to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Occasional lifting 30 lbs. or less

Salary offers are made based on the candidate's qualifications, experience, skills, and education as they directly relate to the requirements of the position, as well as internal and market factors and grade profile.
