Job Summary:

The Department of Gender and Women's Studies at University of Wisconsin Madison seeks applications from scholars with expertise in gender and indigeneity, and/or race and ethnicity, for a nine-month, full-time, permanent tenure-track position to begin August 2023. Applicants with PhDs in Gender and Women's Studies are especially invited to apply but scholars with appropriate training in humanistic and social scientific fields are also welcome. Preference will be given to candidates specializing in any of the following: borderlands studies, Native American/First Nations/Indigenous or Latinx studies, transnational, global and/or area studies outside the United States.

Responsibilities:

All faculty are expected to maintain a robust and high-quality research agenda. In addition, university and professional service, as well as student advising and mentorship, is required appropriate to career stage. The teaching load is two classes per semester. Teaching responsibilities include large lecture, mid-size advanced undergraduate courses and graduate seminars, and Ph.D. advising consistent with the department's teaching mission. The ideal candidate will also possess a commitment to student-centered, inclusive and interactive pedagogy as well as a willingness to foster the success of students from historically marginalized economic, social, and cultural groups.

The Department of Gender and Women's Studies at University of Wisconsin-Madison is an interdisciplinary home for research and teaching on feminism, women, gender, and sexuality. Growing from the Women's Studies Program, which was founded in 1975, we became a department in 2008. Having begun with a small set of course offerings, the department now lists over 100 courses at the undergraduate and graduate level and is admitting our first cohort of Ph.D students to matriculate in Fall, 2023.
