Job Summary/Basic Function
The Online Academic Advisor works within Academic Affairs and reports to the Director of Marauder Online Student Advising & Information Center ( MOSAIC ). The Online Academic Advisor collaborates closely with the Registrar, Admissions, Third parties, the colleges, and the academic departments.
The Online Academic Advisor is part of an advising team which places student learning, success, and retention as top priorities. The Online Academic Advisor serves as a “one-stop shop” to ensure online students’ needs are met and their questions and concerns are addressed.
The Online Academic Advisor is an advocate for the student in two primary areas: academic, which involves registration, working with the registrar’s office, program/department chairs and faculty. The second is administrative, which involves working with student affairs, career services, and financial aid including participation in the continued development of online advising and registration systems. This position will work as part of a team to create and implement a multi-faceted student support network to support students through their academic journey. We encourage candidates with professional experience and a demonstrated interest in promoting an inclusive culture.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILTIES
• Providing continuing online students with timely and effective information.
• Providing continuing online students timely and effective assistance with registration.
• Helping continuing online students develop educational goals that reflect the student’s unique situation.
• Effectively using Software and other tools that may be provided to support student success.
• Monitoring students’ progress toward degree each semester to ensure satisfactory grades and progress toward degree.
• Informing students about and referring students to other institutional resources (counseling, tutoring, career services, etc.) as appropriate.
• Maintaining close coordination and collaboration with departments/colleges.
• Maintaining up-to-date records and providing reports as necessary.
• Participating fully within the university community including providing consultation, training, and outreach to students, faculty, and staff when needed.
• Staying abreast of changing institutional information including new programs, course changes, important dates, costs, and updates in university-wide initiatives and polices.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES :
• Familiarity with higher education and online learning environments.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.
• Strong interpersonal skills.
• Ability to represent and promote the University in a competitive environment.
• Strong computer skills
Minimum Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited institution
• experience with academic advisement, student support, or related services
