Position Summary

Metropolitan State University of Denver’s Department of Management is seeking a full-time, tenure track faculty member to teach primarily in the area of Human Resource Management. Metropolitan State University of Denver ( MSU Denver) is a unique, access-oriented campus community that serves one of the most diverse student bodies in the State of Colorado. More than half the approximately 18,000 undergraduate students are first generation students and over 48% are students of color. MSU Denver seeks to promote an inclusive community of students, faculty, and staff; and an awareness and appreciation of diverse perspectives and identities via an integrated set of policies, practices, programs and resources that are integral to the University’s realization of its Strategic Plan. The University is located on a vibrant tri-institutional campus in the heart of downtown Denver and near to the Rocky Mountains. Through its 100+ programs, robust industry partnerships and an alumni network that is over 100,000 strong, MSU Denver’s social and economic impact reverberates throughout the region.

As one of six departments in the University’s AACSB accredited College of Business, the Department of Management is home to 16 full-time faculty members and 15 affiliates, each of whom bring significant experience to the management, international business, entrepreneurship and new human resource degree programs that the Department offers. The department is known for the collegiality that exists among its members, its supportive culture and the mentoring that is offered to new faculty members.

The selected candidate for this nine-month appointment will be expected to teach 12 credit per semester beginning in August 2023 and possibly as early as January 2023. Teaching responsibilities will involve courses that are part of a recently expanded portfolio of Human Resource Management program offerings, and other management courses as needed. Qualified candidates who possess a commitment to excellence in teaching, student advising, professional development/scholarship, intellectual contributions, and service in an inclusive and diverse environment are strongly encouraged to apply.

Duties/Responsibilities

Teaching involves activities that impart knowledge and critical thinking skills to students. It includes preparing for courses assigned, assessing student progress, conducting curricular review, curricular development and program review, teaching online and on-campus classes, and using new technology, as appropriate.

Advising involves activities specifically directed to assist the student in choosing career options, selecting a degree program, successfully completing his/her degree, obtaining employment or graduate school placement, and keeping informed of University policies.

Scholarly activity is a process which includes activities that brings enrichment to the faculty member and the profession and results in new material that can be presented to students and are related to the faculty member’s assigned responsibilities. Intellectual contribution expectations for Scholarly Academic (SA) designation includes a Doctorate Degree with 5 intellectual or scholarly contributions during a 5-year period. Three must be intellectual contributions, two of which are articles in a preferred peer-reviewed journal. ABD and recent doctorate graduates (less than five years) require no intellectual contributions for hiring but must meet the SA or Practicing Academic (PA) requirements within five years of degree. For details, see College of Business Faculty Qualifications Policy .

Service involves contributions to the University at any level, the community, and/or professional organizations.

Required Qualifications
  • A research based doctoral degree in Human Resource Management, Management, Business Administration, or related field. ABD candidates are welcome to apply but the expectation is that the degree will be conferred prior to the position start date.
  • Meet the College of Business Faculty Qualification Policy criteria to be classified as either SA or PA (as outlined above). For details, see College of Business Faculty Qualifications Policy .

  • Previous college teaching experience at the undergraduate and graduate level
  • Related industry experience through activities such as corporate work experience, business ownership, consulting activities, etc.
