Salary for Announcement

The salary range for these positions is $60,000 – $62,000 at Assistant Professor rank. The salaries of the finalists selected for these roles will be set based upon a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, education, experience, specialty and training.

Position Summary

Metropolitan State University of Denver invites applications for two positions at assistant professor level in either Statistics or Applied Mathematics, to begin August 1, 2023. These are nine-month tenure-track appointments reporting to the chair of the Department of Mathematics and Statistics. All statistical and applied mathematical research fields are encouraged to apply.

Teach 18 credit hours of undergraduate mathematics courses per year, including probability and statistics upper division courses, programming courses in R or Python, and evening and online courses.

The successful candidate will also advise students; participate in course and program development and in scholarly and professional development activities; perform university and community service; perform other duties as assigned by the chair; and work with and be sensitive to the educational needs of a diverse urban population.

Required Qualifications

Doctorate in Statistics, Applied Mathematics, Mathematics with a Concentration in Applied Mathematics, or Mathematics with a Concentration in Statistics, completed by August 1, 2023.

Preferred Qualifications

The successful candidate will have:
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Evidence of potential for continued scholarly activity
  • Experience teaching mathematics and/or statistics at the undergraduate level with evidence of effective teaching
  • Broad interests in undergraduate education, including mentoring undergraduate research, and recruitment and/or retention of students from underrepresented groups
  • Experience working with and sensitivity to the needs of a diverse urban student population, including (but not limited to) BIPOC students, LBGTQIA students, students from low-income backgrounds, first-generation students, students with disabilities, undocumented students, non-traditional students, student veterans, and ESL students
