EDAD 610-01 - Values and Ethics

Fridays: September 9, 2022, September 23, 2022, October 7, 2022: 6:00pm - 10:00pm

Saturdays: September 10, 2022, September 24, 2022, October 8, 2022, 9:00am - 5:00pm

This course is designed to explore the ways in which ethics and value considerations influence 21st century educational institutions and the careers of those that lead and work within them. This course will review theories of ethics and values and their application in educational leadership in order to assist students in evaluating the ethical dimensions of the issues coming before them.

Course Overview / Outcomes

Identify personal values, beliefs and world-views and the role they play in our lives, thoughts, action, and leadership;

1. Describe how our culture of origin shaped our values and the systems we inhabit (family, community, profession, organization, nation);

2. Understand ways one can be congruent with your highest values;

3. Identify values that guide your choice-making and behavior, and craft a path for personal and professional development that is aligned with our vision values;

4. Apply ethical decision making guided by thoughtful assessment;

5. Demonstrate an awareness of potential linkages of specific values with different perspectives on education, ethics, leadership, and conflicts within our larger cultures;

6. Demonstrate ways in which our values influence our conscious and unconscious judgments, evaluations, emotions, and actions.

Required Qualifications:

  • Earned doctorate in educational leadership or related field

  • Must be qualified as a Hall-Tonna Values Coach and have deep knowledge of the Hall-Tonna Values Inventory

  • Willingness and experience with online and remote teaching strategies


Preferred Qualifications
  • Demonstrated experience in teaching at the doctoral level
