Scope of Job:
Provide day-to-day planning and development for departmental programs and services and provide professional level assistance to the Vice President and Director of Athletics and Senior Athletic Administration. Responsible for making complex administrative decisions requiring knowledge of a wide range of regulations, policies, and procedures.

Description of Duties:
• Relieves administrator of a wide variety of internal administrative duties which require a thorough understanding of the functions, programs, and policies of the University.
• Manages the game guarantee contract process, with assistance from relevant staff, on behalf of the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics.
• Serves as liaison to Human Resources on all routine matters for departmental employees.
• Serves as the point of contact for all personnel transactions and works closely with Human Resources to submit appropriate information/paperwork to ensure timely approvals for all new hires.
• In conjunction with HR and Legal Affairs, collaborates with legal counsel on preparing and finalizing employment contracts for coaches and senior administration.
• In partnership with the Senior Associate Athletics Director for Business Operations, aids in the search, recruitment, hiring and onboarding of departmental personnel, in addition to managing the annual review process for all departmental staff.
• Works to identify current trends, best practices and new technologies in athletics and facilitates the education of coaches and staff.
• Serves on the Athletic Senior Leadership team that provides executive level management of strategic priorities for athletic department.
• Responsible for leading Brownsville area engagement initiatives for the department through the promotion of events, coordination of facilities, development of schedules, consultation with on and off-campus partners, presenting on behalf of the department to various stakeholders, assisting in fundraising efforts when needed, while ensuring program equity and Title IX compliance.
• Manages and participates in the development and implementation of departmental strategic and risk management plans.
• Along with other Athletic Senior Leadership, assists in the development and formulation of departmental policies and procedures.
• In conjunction with the Vice President and Director of Athletics, audits departmental processes and identifies needs.
• Manages the Vice President and Director of Athletics schedule and calendar, including coordination of logistics. Performs other job-related duties and special projects as assigned by the Vice President and Director of Athletics.

General supervision from the assigned supervisor.

Specific supervision of assigned staff.

Required Education:
Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited University in Business Administration, Sports Administration, Communications, Marketing or a related field.

Preferred Education:


Required Experience:
Two (2) years’ experience performing related office administration work.

Preferred Experience:
Work experience obtained within collegiate athletics. Knowledge of relevant NCAA guidelines.

Use of standard office equipment and software.

Working Conditions:
Needs to be able to successfully perform all required duties. Sedentary work, exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. UTRGV is a distributed institution, which requires presence at multiple locations throughout the Rio Grande Valley.

Ability to multi-task. Must possess strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills. Work requires the application of considerable judgment and discretion. Requires strong computer and Internet research skills, flexibility, excellent interpersonal skills, project coordination experience, and the ability to work well with all levels of internal management and staff, outside clients and vendors. Sensitivity to confidential matters will be required. Demonstrate the ability to think critically and plan to achieve departmental goals. Must be able to understand complex issues within the scope of college athletics. Must have a working knowledge of NCAA regulations.
