Johns Hopkins Carey Business School is seeking a talented, innovative, and collaborative Associate Director to join the Office of Experiential Learning. Carey Business School embraces an experiential learning approach that exposes students to complex business challenges, provides them with constructive feedback and opportunities for reflection, and enables them to learn by applying evidence-based approaches in current business contexts.

The Office of Experiential Learning (OEL) for the Johns Hopkins Carey Business School is responsible for implementing this model of learning through program and course design; integrating regional, national, and international business challenges in school programs and courses; developing and administering dynamic domestic and international experiences; ensure activities and EL programming supports Carey’s DEIB vision and accountability, and supporting other curricular and co-curricular experiential learning initiatives.

The Associate Director will lead program execution, and ensure strategic alignment, partnership development, program management, and administration for the Full-Time MBA curricular experiential learning model at the Carey Business School. The position requires programmatic planning; collaboration with faculty; corporate partner development and relationship management; sourcing appropriately scoped projects for curricular integration; administrative responsibilities; program oversight; budget management; development and execution of student and faculty project-related travel; faculty, staff, and student training; and an entrepreneurial and strategic working style. The Associate Director position will be remote with frequent travel to Baltimore and Washington, DC, as needed to participate in onsite classes. Off hours/weekends may be required to accommodate program needs. The Associate Director reports to the Director of Experiential Learning and Programs Risk Management.

This position regularly interacts with leaders in the business community, including C-suite and executive-level positions, to negotiate mutually beneficial collaborative project work and lead partner agreement execution. As such, the incumbent is expected to maintain knowledge of relevant business concepts and trends to facilitate the development of compelling business challenges.

As such, the Associate Director is expected to maintain knowledge of relevant business concepts and trends to facilitate the development of compelling business challenges. The Associate Director will work with the Director to develop and implement a strategy for the FT MBA that brings new innovative ideas that support Carey’s pursuit of Ranking and builds Carey’s reputation.

The Associate Director serves as the subject matter expert for faculty in the areas of experiential learning, partnering, course business challenge identification, development and integration into FT MBA curriculum.


Specific Duties & Responsibilities

Partnership and Program Development

  • Collaborates with faculty to assess business challenge needs, parameters, and partner profile for experiential learning course challenges
  • Leads corporate partners/challenge sponsors development strategy, conducts outreach, negotiations, and secures projects through partnership agreements for all FT MBA experiential learning courses (6-7courses); sourcing approximately 25 projects annually
  • Collaborates with other Carey offices to leverage partnerships to advance school objectives
  • Leverages extensive business experience and knowledge of current business issues and trends to lead the identification of timely and compelling business projects to incorporate into course work
  • Identifies and recommends new innovations in EL curriculum advancement for FT MBA consideration
  • Identifies and test new technologies to support program operations, management and course enhancement

Program Management
  • Partners with FT MBA faculty to incorporate experiential learning best practices into course structure; propose partner engagement and strategy
  • Lead the develop of program logistics for virtual and onsite academic projects and business challenges in various domestic and possibly international locations
  • Negotiate contracts with vendors and manage on-ground delivery of programs
  • Leads student engagement strategy for travel and program logistics
  • Budget responsibility
  • Leads logistical partnership development and contracting responsibilities, including collaboration with central University partners
  • Develops and implements strategies for evaluating experiential learning courses impact and value

Program Promotion

  • Represents Carey’s Office of Experiential Learning at admission events
  • Leads the development of the Experiential Learning Day during the FT MBA Foundations Week
  • Represents Carey at conferences and award events, promoting Carey’s experiential learning model
  • Identifies and engages with relevant associations, including serving on committees

New Program Development

  • Collaborates with faculty in the development of new experiential courses
  • Work collaboratively with the FT MBA APM to identify opportunities to enhance overall program experience.

Risk Management

  • Manage risk management compliance for the experiential learning courses

  • Working knowledge and appreciation for the following critical business concepts: entrepreneurship, healthcare, business analytics, leadership, risk management, and technology
  • Knowledge of, or demonstrable interest in, experiential learning concepts and practices

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree.
  • Five years of experience in aspects of academic program administration or program/project administration in the areas of marketing, finance, business, graduate level higher education, or other related experience.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s Degree in business or a related field from a regionally accredited college or university preferred.
  • Seven years or more related experience strongly preferred.
  • Two or more years’ experience working in partnership development or business development.
  • Supervisory experience preferred.
