Job Description



PURPOSE AND SCOPE:

T he Manager, Career Counseling provide s guidance to students, prospective students and community members in career exploration and planning, resume writing, job search, and interview skills. C onduct s training and seminars in classes and interact with faculty for scheduling. O versee s job fairs, job boards and website, and interact s with local businesses.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  1. Interview and counsel students regarding career choices and assist them to determine potential careers options and/or college discipline
  2. Administer and interpret multiple programs and tests that aid in appropriate career selections (i.e. Choices program, which tests students’ interests, abilities, and job skills and provides guidance in career choice determination; MBTI personality tests, which assists in determining a career based upon the results of the test)
  3. Critique resumes and work with students on their resumes and cover letters.
  4. Oversee career services website, job boards, and job fairs
  5. Conduct career services/exploration, interviewing technique, resume writing and overall job search skills workshops for students and graduates
  6. Work with a variety of LSC departments and local businesses for placement of students in jobs within their fields, as well as develop co-op position for students; Develop new business partnerships and maintain current partnership relations to increase potential for student placement
  7. Manage the career closet, soliciting for donations and marketing the closet to students
  8. Serve on system-wide career services committees
  9. Responsible for other reasonable, related duties as assigned


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
  • Ex cellent customer service skills

  • Strong skills with computer applications, such as Microsoft Office Suite
  • Ability to provide dynamic and proactive educational leadership in academic advising
  • Familiarity with a case m anagement approach to advising
  • Ability to manage operations in an extremel y busy environment

  • Excellent communi cation and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to o versee the work of a team
PHYSICAL ABILITIES :

The work is sedentary. Typically, the employee sits comfortably to do the work. However, there may be some walking; standing; bending; carrying of light items, such as papers, books, or small parts; or driving an automobile. No special physical demands are required to perform the work.

WORK SCHEDULE AND CONDITIONS:
  • Equipment used includes, PC workstation running on a LAN in a Microsoft Windows environment, calculator, phone and other general office equipment
  • Interface with internal and external contacts as needed to carry out the functions of the position
  • Work is performed in a climate-controlled office with minimal exposure to safety hazards
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's degree and at least 3 years of related work experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience
Salary

Hiring salary range is $46,300 - $53,245.

Lone Star College provides a hiring salary range for all posted full-time non-faculty positions. Where your salary offer would fall in that range is determined by your related experience and education. Should you receive an offer of employment from Lone Star College, the resume submitted in the application process will be utilized to calculate your salary offer. The information outlined below will provide the Office of Human Resources everything needed to determine an accurate starting salary.
