Job Summary

Under the newly minted division of University Marketing & Communications, the Office of Marketing Communications creates proactive, innovative, and comprehensive marketing, communications and branding strategies that highlight Drexel’s academic strengths and research, while emphasizing the value and potential of the experiential education model. The Office of Marketing Communications works closely with colleges, schools, academic and administrative staff throughout the University to create comprehensive marketing and communications strategies that serve the University’s overarching branding, recruitment and retention goals to meet or exceed the enrollment and revenue objectives. The Office of Marketing Communications defines, protects, and disseminates the Drexel University brand while clearly illustrating its unique value proposition.

The web developer is responsible for developing, maintaining, and updating University websites as part of the division of the Office of Marketing Communications in the Division of University Marketing & Communications. The role will make best practice recommendations for websites to external and internal partners of the division and ensure standards are maintained. The role reports to the Director of Web Development.

Essential Functions
  • Execute user experience web design principles including information architecture, visual interface design, responsive design, accessibility compliance (Section 508, WCAG 2.0), web analytics, SEO best practices, and writing for the web
  • Maintain the University’s branding guidelines and web standards; assist with graphic design as needed for web purposes; and provide direction for web-related photography, video, and interactive design
  • Review and edit content in adherence to editorial style guidelines; and collaborate with website stakeholders to develop a concise message
  • Make web edits and updates to any sites maintained by University Marketing & Communications, and any other websites assigned to the department
  • Create new websites within the Sitecore content management system
  • Work collaboratively and creatively with (non-technical) communication providers/content owners and members of the communications team in the creation and maintenance of websites, while adhering to university web standards
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in IST, Media Arts and Design, Computer Science or Equivalent
  • The position requires proficiency in HTML, CSS, and Photoshop; familiarity with JavaScript and jQuery; and the ability to quickly learn Drexel’s enterprise, Sitecore content management system (CMS)
  • Candidates must have the ability to flourish in a fast-paced professional work environment while maintaining an attention to detail; be able to diplomatically communicate with clients effectively through email and in person; and the ability to work independently and on concurrent multiple projects is essential
  • Weekend work and nights may be required from time to time
Preferred Qualifications
  • Direct experience with the Sitecore CMS
