Facility Maintenance Technician - Mechanical Trades (Steam Plant)

Primary Purpose of Position:
The primary purpose of this position is to operate, maintain and repair of high pressure steam; knowledge of generation, condensation and distribution of steam systems and general knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and mechanical systems. This position is responsible for the operation of electronic controls, power tools, and hand tools; to work independently as a member of a team.

Minimum Education/Experience:
High school diploma or equivalency; or demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work. Some positions may require special licenses or certification(s). Optional Guidelines: Experience in the trade(s) areas related to the area of assignment may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.

Locksmith Positions: North Carolina Locksmith Licensing Association.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
The successful candidate must possess a working knowledge of system encompasses all controls in building mechanical rooms that use steam and hot water; knowledge of quality assurance, valve, pump and pipe repair, gauge calibration, boiler repair and operation, chemical anaysis, precision, measuring, system controls, hydrostatic testing, trouble-shooting, and problem solving; knowledge of monitoring and inspecting constantly and equipment adjusted to avoid malfunctions, and ensures that the equipment is operating within set operation ranges; ability to work independently with little or no supervision; to take initiative to see projects and assignments through to completion; to learn, interpret and analyze information to make necessary decisions; to exercise judgment and discretion in problem solving; to plan, prioritize and organize workflow; ability to work flexible schedules; excellent analytical and organizational skills along with written and oral communication skills; a valid driver’s license is required.
