The Department of Psychology seeks an Assistant or an Associate Professor in School Psychology to continue the tradition of excellence in our nationally recognized, NASP-approved, and vibrant Ed.S. program. The successful candidate will teach a diverse population of graduate and undergraduate students, conduct scholarly research, collaborate with local school districts and communities, and engage in service-related activities in school psychology as well as in the candidate’s area of specialization.

The area of specialization is open. Specific teaching assignments depend on departmental needs and the background of the individual.

Our Students: As a Hispanic-Serving Institution (HSI) and an Asian American/Native American/Pacific Islander-Serving Institution (AANAPISI), California State University, Fresno has a diverse student population and is committed to inclusion and community involvement. It has been given the Community Engagement Classification by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching. Historically, there is a high proportion of school psychology graduate students from culturally diverse and/or minoritized backgrounds.

Qualifications:

Required Education:

  • An earned doctorate (Ph.D. or Ed.D.) in School Psychology or a closely related field from an APA accredited program or international equivalent.
    • Applicants nearing completion of the doctorate (ABD) will be considered; however, for an appointment, the doctorate must be completed by August 1, 2023.


  • Required Experience:

  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with faculty, staff, and students from diverse backgrounds.
  • Evidence of successful teaching, or potential for successful teaching, at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
  • Scholarly publications or evidence of successful scholarship that is likely to lead to scholarly publications.
  • For an appointment to Associate Professor, candidates must demonstrate a strong record of excellence in teaching at the university level and a record of scholarly research and publications commensurate with level of experience. The successful candidate will be expected to take a leadership position in the School Psychology Graduate Program.


  • Required for appointment to the Rank of Associate:

  • Experience commensurate with the rank of Associate.


  • Preferred Experience :

  • At least two years of field experience as a credentialed school psychologist or credentialed bilingual school psychologist.
  • Eligibility for certification as a school psychology practitioner in California.
  • A national credential in the country of the candidate (e.g., Nationally Certified School Psychologist, NCSP, in the U.S.)
  • Publications in peer-reviewed journals commensurate with level of experience.
  • Evidence of ability to obtain extramural funding for research.

    About the Department:

    The School Psychology Graduate Program is located in the Department of Psychology. The Department has approximately 1800 undergraduate students, 90 graduate students, and 20 full-time faculty members. In addition to the Ed.S. in School Psychology, the department also offers an M.A. in Applied Behavior Analysis and an M.A. in General Experimental Psychology. The faculty are dedicated teachers and researchers who place great emphasis on working collaboratively with each other and engaging students in both research and community service.
