Job Summary

The Anderson Language and Technology Center (ALTEC) is a service unit that supports the language learning community at the University of Colorado Boulder, and we are seeking applicants for an Educational Services Coordinator! ALTEC’s mission is to broaden and deepen cultural understanding through innovative approaches to language learning and teaching. This position coordinates educational services including the Modified Foreign Language Program and language tutoring and serves as the expert on technology for Language Acquisition while contributing to building a diverse and inclusive language community. The Educational Services Coordinator additionally supervises Proficiency and Placement testing and supports language faculty through specialized workshops, among other initiatives.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

Educational Services
  • Supervise the process and interviews for students wishing to take language courses through the Modified Foreign Language Program . The MFLP currently offers Spanish language courses designed with a multisensory teaching approach that is customized to support each student’s challenge areas and promote equity and inclusion among language learners. Inform campus partners about these educational services and programs and contribute to the program’s growth which may include expanding to other languages.
  • Coordinate and develop the center’s language tutoring program . Explore collaboration with existing CU tutoring centers and language departments to provide language tutoring. Development will include designing 1:1 and group tutoring schedules, instructing tutors on standard processes, creating intake and exit procedures including surveys, and crafting data reports to inform decisions related to the tutoring program. Additionally, continually seek ways to fund the program through campus partnerships, donor gifts and/or internal or external grants.
  • Coordinate language assessment initiatives . This includes facilitating updates with language faculty and the Office of Information Technology to the placement exams used to determine language level for for-credit courses. Coordinate language proficiency exams for heritage speaker students to satisfy the CU language requirement using the FLATS examination and internal proficiency exams. It also includes coordination of OPI and OPIc exams. This position may additionally provide guidance on unifying language proficiency assessment practices across departments and the CU Boulder campus.
  • Facilitate the creation and upkeep of the Language Navigator, a website tool that provides students a central place to navigate and engage with language information and opportunities at the university.
Faculty Learning
  • Curate and facilitate workshops for faculty and graduate students as well as instructors from the community on instructional design and technology integration in the language classroom in addition to other relevant topics. Responsible for preparing workshops and coordinating logistics, such as room reservations and marketing, in collaboration with the ALTEC staff. Additionally, foster relationships with faculty to raise awareness of ALTEC’s programs, services and events. This position may also serve as a language pedagogy expert and consultant for language faculty.
  • Stay up to date on the latest language acquisition technologies including software, tools, virtual reality among others. Recommend and advise faculty on ways to integrate new technology in their curriculum. Suggest purchases that ALTEC can make so faculty can test the technology prior to integration.
What You Should Know

This position is eligible to work a hybrid format during the summers, but is expected to be in person during the academic year.

What We Require
  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience may substitute.
  • 1+ years of related experience. (This could include work experience in language acquisition methodologies, tutoring, assisting students who have struggled with language learning, assessment practices, program coordination, instructional design, technology integration, and building inclusive communities, among others).
What You Will Need
  • An understanding of project management standard methodologies.
  • Interpersonal and cultural competency skills to engage with a diverse set of partners ranging from students to faculty to staff.
  • Competence in seeking out relationships and establishing partnerships.
  • Ability to ideate, recommend, plan out and implement strategy to grow each initiative, as well as presenting these initiatives to various individuals and groups.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and timelines concurrently.
  • Comfortable with technology and eager to continually grow technology skills.
What We Would Like You To Have
  • Master's Degree.
  • 3+ years of experience in the latest language acquisition methodologies, as relates to tutoring, assisting students who have struggled with language learning, assessment practices, instructional design, technology integration, and/or building inclusive communities, among others.
