About the Team/Department

The Office of Global & Immersive Studies creates and provides study programs at AU, elsewhere in the United States, and abroad that serve AU’s mission to educate citizens capable of engaging with complex global issues. These programs are characterized by their integration of rigorous academic engagement with experiential learning. Programs include our more than 150 study abroad and exchange programs across the globe, including our AU Centers in Brussels, Madrid, and Nairobi; experiential-based programs in DC and other U.S. cities; and our English language and bridging programs designed for international students who wish to begin their university studies in the U.S. The experiential components amplify and extend the liberal arts learning that occurs on campus while enhancing students’ global engagement.

Summary/Objective

Reporting to the Vice Provost of OGIS, the position provides leadership in OGIS strategic international and immersive programming and support. It also plays a key role in strategizing and supporting the growth of OGIS current programs, such as IAP and WSP, as well as serving as the lead administrator for OGIS’s faculty affairs. University wide, the position is a core member in development of AU’s international enrollment strategy, as well as advising and supporting AU’s academic units to create and implement their global education strategies and programs.

Essential Functions
  1. Strategic Global Initiatives: With the academic units and OGIS units, lead planning and support of the implementation of key strategic global initiatives, such as creating new double degree programs, hybrid degree programs and other innovative degree programs at both undergraduate and graduate levels with international partners. Lead negotiation of MOAs and other agreements with international partners for OGIS’s selected strategic initiatives or consult with relevant AU parties to negotiate such agreements.
  2. Program Strategy, Management & Support: Work with the Vice Provost and the Director of the English Language Academy and Training and the International Accelerator Program in international pathway program strategy, management, and student support. Work with the Vice Provost and the Director of Washington Semester Program in strategizing enrollment growth, program management, and student support for the Washington Semester Program.
  3. International Enrollment Strategy: With the Office of Enrollment, Office of Graduate and Professional Studies, and academic units, serve as a working group core member and contribute to the refinement of AU’s international enrollment strategy, including AU’s Global Hubs.
  4. OGIS Faculty Affairs Management: Manage OGIS faculty affairs by working and supporting OGIS faculty and program directors.
  5. Other Duties: Serve as the Vice Provost’s representative in meetings with internal and external audiences. Support and serve other requests from the Vice Provost.


Work Environment
  • Must be able to travel internationally for extended periods of time.
  • May occasionally require work on evenings and weekends.
  • Hybrid working will be offered. Current expectation is 2/3 days a week on campus, with 3/2 days per week working remotely. This may change depending on business needs.

Required Education and Experience
  • Master's degree
  • 8-10 years of experience in international academic programs, with 3-5 years at the level of director.
  • Demonstrated success in international education program development; excellent supervisory, organizational, interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Evidence of success in office management; and ability to facilitate a collaborative work environment.
  • Program management experience
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills required.
Preferred Education and Experience
  • Evidence of creativity and entrepreneurship in the development of international programs preferred.
  • Knowledge of a second language other than English.
