Job Summary/Basic Function
The System and Security Engineer will be part of a team that delivers mission-critical infrastructure while ensuring the highest level of availability and performance. The System and Security Engineer will be responsible for establishing and maintaining the university-wide IT infrastructure to ensure the security, integrity, and availability of the university’s information assets. To do this, the System and Security Engineer will need to be able to rigorously apply information assurance policies, principles, and practices. This role requires excellent communication, personal, and governance skills, and will often participate in project management, security, asset management, and customer service to resolve problems and manage projects.
Key responsibilities of the position include:
• Manage and monitor all installed systems and infrastructure
• Proactively ensure the highest levels of systems and infrastructure availability
• Provide metrics on systems that will help determine the health and availability of the infrastructure
• Maintain security, backup, and redundancy strategies
• Participate in the design and development of supported systems to ensure the highest level of performance and ensure the advancement of the systems to stay with the needs of the users.
• Develop, execute, and track the performance of security measures to protect information, network infrastructure, and computer systems.
• Plan, develop, implement and update the university’s information security strategy.
• Keep abreast of and gain expertise in the evolving technology and understand how new technologies could be applied to our security environment
Minimum Qualifications
Proven working experience in installing, configuring, and troubleshooting windows servers
Solid experience in administrating and managing a virtual (VMWare) environment
Solid cloud experience (AWS and Azure)
Proven working experience with Active Directory, Azure AD, Microsoft 365, and Powershell
Experience with monitoring systems, SolarWinds preferred
Proven experience developing, operating, and maintaining security systems (Nessus, Barracuda, ESET, DUO)
In-depth knowledge of security protocols and principles
Critical thinking skills and ability to solve complex problems
Ability to stay on top of industry trends and new initiatives.
Ability to liaise with vendors and other IT personnel for problem resolution.
Preferred Qualifications
BS/MS in technology-related degree or 3-4 years of equivalent experience
