Position Description
The Department of Health and Human Performance at Texas State University, a Hispanic-Serving Institution ( HSI ), invites applications for the position of Clinical Assistant Professor in Athletic Training.

San Marcos is in the center of the innovation corridor, 40 minutes south of Austin and 60 minutes north of San Antonio and is rich in vibrant and eclectic communities. The campus is situated within a public school district that is attended by more than 50 percent Latinx students.

The Department of Health and Human Performance ( HHP ) at Texas State University, a Hispanic -Serving Institution ( HIS ), invites applications for the position of Clinical Assistant Professor in Athletic Training. The Department of HHP serves approximately 2,300 undergraduate and graduate students seeking degrees in athletic training, exercise and sport science, public health, and recreation. The department offers a CAATE -accredited Master of Science degree in Athletic Training. Athletic training (AT) faculty also teach undergraduate courses in the pre-rehabilitation sciences ( PRS ) concentration of the Bachelor in Exercise and Sports Science degree.
This is a non-tenure line faculty appointment of 5 years, contingent on funding, evaluation, and departmental needs. A clinical faculty may be reappointed in the clinical track for one or more terms. The primary responsibilities are to provide education in AT and PRS, direct clinical laboratory and experiential learning, and share professional expertise with students.
Clinical faculty teach courses emphasizing skills essential to professional practice, direct students’ clinical and experiential learning, assess clinical skills and readiness for professional practice, participate in scholarly and professional engagement, contribute to program development and/or other areas of practical application, and provide service to the department, college, university, and profession. Clinical faculty are individuals who have elected to maintain their primary practice credentials and skills, which can specifically contribute to the academic programs particularly in the practice-based areas.

Required Qualifications
- Earned doctorate in Athletic Training or a related field before the appointment.
- Current Certified Athletic Trainer ( ATC ) certification, or equivalent state license, for a minimum of five years, to demonstrate current and contemporary competence.
- Significant years (normally more than five beyond entry level) of full-time experience with paid work as an ATC, post-certification/licensure for a minimum of five years, and potential for significant professional growth.
- Experience in teaching at the university level.
- Evidence of scholarship through relevant professional presentations, workshops, or publications related to the practice of AT.
- Demonstrated service and leadership related to the practice of AT via relevant professional and/or community organizations.
- Clinical AT experience at both university and high school levels.
- Clinical certifications related to the practice of AT and PRS (e.g., CPR / AED, phlebotomy, IASTM, etc.).
- Supervision of student research related to AT and PRS .
- Leadership in AT and PRS community and educational events.
