Job Summary

Reporting to the Director of Resources and Operations, and receiving work lead direction from the Network Analyst for the College, the incumbent coordinates the technical support team for all servers within the College of Science (CoS). Working independently and under limited supervision, this incumbent is tasked with coordinating a team of technicians and providing project oversight, in the installation, analysis, modification, maintenance and security of operating systems and related software and hardware for servers within the College of Science, both physical and virtual. This includes identifying, customizing, optimizing and upgrading operating systems, applications and related hardware to meet ongoing user needs of the College in order to maximize operating efficiency and ensure the availability, integrity, security and reliability of these systems. The incumbent is an active member of the CoS Network and Computer Services (NCS) team and provides technical support to the college computing staff to assure computing services in support of the goals and mission of the college.

Key Responsibilities
  • Participate as a member of the College server team to assure timely and appropriate support of College Linux servers
  • Ensure security of all NCS administered College servers - apply timely patches, anti-virus definitions and monitor logs
  • Develop data and disaster recovery plans for College servers including regular back-ups of server and user data
  • Monitor, administer optimize and maintain OS, hardware and software for both physical and virtual servers
  • Monitor College's Helpdesk tickets to provide timely resolution to assigned issues
  • Provide computing support to College staff and faculty, and students
  • Consult with College members to identify needs and provide recommendations for acquisition and use of resources
  • Coordinate with CoS NCS team to develop compatible systems and standards
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Ability to install, maintain, support and troubleshoot different type of servers, operating systems, selected software and utilities
  • Knowledge of principles, practices, and techniques used in the installation, maintenance, support, security and troubleshooting of different types of server hardware, operating systems, common applications and utilities
  • Demonstrated knowledge and support of multiple Linux OSs
  • Proven knowledge and support of VM architecture and practices
  • Detailed understanding of cluster computing and HPC principles and practices
  • Ability to use performance monitoring software and interpret results
  • Ability to perform preventative and remedial maintenance for operating and server systems
  • Ability to identify and take appropriate action to prevent operating and service problems and perform regular system preventive maintenance
  • Knowledge of network operating system, network architecture, configuration and protocols
  • Comprehensive knowledge of client/server architecture and technologies
  • Demonstrated organizational abilities to identify workload, set and shift priorities to meet changing needs
  • Ability to identify emerging technology issues and relate them to the needs of the College
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships within a diverse multicultural environment
  • Ability to communicate (orally and in writing) effectively with faculty, staff and students with varying levels of computer knowledge and understanding
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems, educational technology, communications, or related fields, or similar certified coursework in applicable fields of study
  • Three (3) years of experience supporting information systems and technology

Anticipated Hiring Range: $7,500/month - $7,759/month
CSU Salary Range: $4,678/month - $11,547/month
