SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITY:
Under minimal supervision, directs, provides leadership, and oversees all coaching duties for intercollegiate Men’s and Women’s Cross Country and Track & Field Programs operating under NCAA Division II operating bylaws and regulations. Directs and coordinates all aspects of recruitment and training for athletic competitions, and oversees the planning and fiscal management of the program activities. The University participates in the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (“SIAC”).
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Organizes, prepares, and conducts individual and team practices, training, and competition.
- Recruits student-athletes in accordance with NCAA rules and regulations through scouting, attending tournaments, home visits, and other activities as directed.
- Directs all aspects, areas, and components of the Men’s and Women’s Cross Country and Track & Field sports teams (i.e.; various individual positions).
- Coordinates all strategic aspects of the men’s and women’s cross country and track & field sports programs.
- Represents men’s and women’s cross country and track and field sports programs to various institutional programs and externally to media, government agencies, funding agencies, students, parents, and the general public.
- Manages daily operations of the athletic program; directs supervises, and coordinates all administrative facets.
- Oversees all aspects of the financial operations of the men’s and women’s cross country and track & field athletic programs.
- Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
OTHER DUTIES: Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree with more than five (5) years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES:
- Knowledge and understanding of all aspects of the sport of men’s and women’s cross country and track & field.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
- Ability to foster a cooperative work environment.
- Knowledge of athletic recruitment methods and techniques.
- Knowledge of NCAA regulations and guidelines governing the recruitment and retention of student-athletes.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.
- Ability to lead and guide Division II student-athletes in Kentucky State University’s men’s and women’s cross country and track & field programs.
- Ability to read, understand, follow, and enforce safety procedures.
- Knowledge of financial/business analysis techniques.
- Ability to make administrative/procedural decisions and judgments.
- Skill in budget preparation and fiscal management.
- This position will not have any supervisory responsibility.
- Work involves considerable exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises.
- Moderate physical activity. Requires handling of average-weight objects up to 25 pounds or standing and/or walking for more than six (6) hours per day.
- The work environment involves minimal exposure to physical risks, such as operating dangerous equipment or working with chemicals.
