ADRC COMMUNICATIONS SPECIALIST

Salary:

Minimum $45,000 ANNUAL (12 months)

Job Summary:

The Wisconsin Alzheimer's Disease Research Center (ADRC) within the Division of Geriatrics and Gerontology is seeking a Communications Specialist to educate members of the public, research participants, patients, and donors about Alzheimer's disease and related dementias and the work being done by ADRC investigators. This position provides communications, writing, marketing, and multimedia support to the administrative, educational, outreach, development, research, and clinical areas of the department.

The Wisconsin ADRC and its partners produce several regular publications including print newsletters, e-newsletters, annual reports, and a podcast. In addition, it develops educational and promotional materials related to its research mission, brain health, and healthy aging. Several annual events and ongoing events series help further serve the Wisconsin ADRC's mission.

The communications specialist will work closely with the communications team, ADRC Administrator, and all ADRC Core Leaders, to execute print, online, virtual and multimedia projects for internal and external audiences. A successful candidate will have a passion for science communication, can translate complex scientific and clinical work of the Wisconsin ADRC into compelling, effective narratives; must be detail-oriented; possess excellent interpersonal, problem-solving, and organizational skills; and have the agility to work concurrently on multiple teams, tasks, projects, and assignments.

Responsibilities:

Develops and drafts communication content and assists in the execution of the communications strategy in support of unit communication goals.
  • 10% Monitors reach and effectiveness of communication campaigns, projects, and initiatives
  • 10% Plans editorial content according to established goals and objects
  • 10% Communicates with stakeholders to verify requests and identify editorial resources
  • 50% Writes, edits, and publishes content for various communication projects and marketing platforms to align with strategic initiatives and established communication campaigns
  • 20% Provides project management and execution of communications programs, initiatives, and tactical plans

Education:

Preferred
Bachelor's Degree
Specialization in journalism, marketing, communications, or related field, or equivalent level of experience in communications, health education and/or healthcare, English, science writing, or related field, preferred.

Qualifications:

Preferred candidates will have:
- Two years of progressive experience in marketing and/or communications in a professional setting
- Experience working in a clinical, health, or social science research environment
- Medical/science writing experience and ability to translate complex health and science information into plain language
- Knowledge of Associated Press Style and media relations principles
- Professional training and experience in graphic or digital design, writing, editing, web design, development, and content management, and/or digital media.
- Familiarity with audio/visual technology and experience planning and executing virtual and in-person events
- Experience in community outreach, event planning, and development

Work Type:

Full Time: 100%

This position may require some work to be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location. Some work may be performed remotely, at an offsite, non-campus work location.
