Salary for Announcement

The salary range for this five-year grant funded position is $46,000 – $57,000. The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based upon a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, training, and qualifications.

Position Summary

MSU Denver’s new linked learning community is for students pursuing a degree in the aerospace / aeronautics or engineering fields with the goal of becoming a technician. The outreach coordinator will work with Aviation and Aerospace Science ( AVS ) Department staff & faculty to co-develop and sustain a learning community that is based on a cohorted program with unique goals and objectives as they professionalize within the AVS department and the SpaceTech Scholars Program to ultimately graduate.

MSU Denver is particularly interested in applicants who have experience working with students from diverse backgrounds and a demonstrated commitment to improving access to higher education for under-represented and historically minoritized groups. Our student population consists of over 50% first-generation students and over 45% students of color. We are a designated Hispanic Serving Institution ( HSI ) located in downtown Denver. As the third largest institution of higher education in Colorado and the only institution with an open access mission, MSU Denver is a model university for today’s college students.

Duties/Responsibilities

The Outreach Coordinator of the SpaceTech Scholars Program will work closely with the SpaceTech Project Manager to complete the community engagement and student success goals of this grant. This effort will include activities such as:

K-12 Engagement and Partnership (50%)
  • K-12 engagement specifically within Denver Public Schools, Aurora Public Schools, and K-12 institutions with STEM exploration programs/curriculum around the Denver-Metro Area.
  • Develop Partnerships with K-12 serving non-profit organizations engaging underrepresented communities. Specifically, the Outreach Coordinator will focus on collaborating on Higher Education STEM access to create awareness of SpaceTech Scholars and MSU Denver and its Aviation and Aerospace Science ( AVS ) program. Example of collaboration include:
    • Denver Scholarship Foundation
    • LAEF – Latin American Education Fund
    • CollegeTrack Denver & Aurora
    • Colorado Aerospace Frontiers Education Committee
    • Hispanic Association of Colleges & Universities ( HACU )
  • Organize and be available to represent SpaceTech Scholars for K-12 school visits (In-Person and/or Remote)
  • Organize MSU Denver and AVS facility campus visits pending community interest, with the support of MSU Denver faculty and staff.
  • Field questions of interests from prospective students, community, and interest partners.
  • Report to the SpaceTech Project Manager on pertinent areas of recruitment and community engagement.

First Year Experience Programming (10%)
  • Community building and development of First Year Experience programming
  • Develop a First Year Experience with the input and support of undergraduate STEM /Peer navigators, Program Coordinator and Project Manager.

Summer Bridge Coordination & Development (15%)
  • Work with the SpaceTech Project Manager to develop a Summer Bridge program for rising High School Juniors and/or Seniors.
  • Work with the SpaceTech Project Manager and AVS faculty to co-develop and sustain dual-enrollment offerings.

Overall Programmatic Support (25%)
  • Develop and maintain an intake and participation process for the SpaceTech Scholars Program that captures interest from potential, incoming, and current MSU Students.
  • Engage in K-12 Latinx/Hispanic community development initiatives as MSU Denver is an accredited Hispanic Serving Institution.
  • Serve as an advocate to support the mission of MSU Denver to provide a high-quality, accessible, enriching education that prepares students for successful careers, post-graduate education, and lifelong learning in a multicultural, global, and technological society.
  • Serve as a representative to the MSU Denver staff community
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in a related field including Education, Sociology, Ethnic Studies, Engineering, Aerospace, Aviation, etc.
  • Experience working in a higher-education and/or K-12 settings with diverse populations in a multicultural environment that is committed to equality, accessibility and inclusivity in education
  • Able to work and be sensitive to the educational needs of a diverse urban population

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in higher education, human services, or related field
  • Currently pursuing a Master’s degree in a related field
  • Bilingual (Spanish-English) ability
  • Experience working to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion
  • Experience working with students in a university or collegiate setting
  • Experience working within a team and communicating collaboratively within an educational institution and stakeholders to the related entities of that institution
  • Experience in public outreach and/or advocacy
  • Experience related to working with government agencies and non-profit organizations on matters of diversity & equity, and student advocacy
  • Experience working with K-12 educational partners supporting underrepresented communities
Work Hours

This is a hybrid position designed to support flexibility. While a majority of the work can be completed remotely, there will be the need for in-person engagements as required by department and program needs.
