A.T. Still University's Arizona School of Health Sciences (ATSU-ASHS) invites applications for exempt faculty at the Assistant or Associate professor rank for the department of Physician Assistant Studies on the Mesa, Arizona campus. This position reports to the Director of Didactic Education. The purpose of this position is to teach, evaluate, and counsel students, provide departmental administrative support, serve on institution committees, and participate in student applicant review.

Job Duties:

  1. Assist the DDE and Chair in development, content, implementation, and evaluation of the curriculum for programs within the PA Department.
  2. Provide guidance and direction to department staff and faculty involved in the coordination and instruction of the curriculum.
  3. Teach, evaluate, and counsel students.
  4. Provide liaison with appropriate offices and departments involved in medical allied health education with external agencies useful to didactic instructions.
  5. Secure, orient, and evaluate adjunct faculty.
  6. Provide feedback to instructors to help them improve teaching skills.
  7. Assist DDE and Chair in evaluating teaching and learning effectiveness of curriculum.
  8. Counsel students with academic and professionalism issues, referring them to appropriate personnel as needed.
  9. Assist the DDE and Chair in maintaining ongoing progress for evaluating and reporting teaching/learning effectiveness of the curriculum to be incorporated in the ongoing self-study.
  10. Interact with key external organizations to enhance the role of programs within the PA Department.
  11. Other duties as assigned by department chair.


Job Responsibilities:

  1. Assist the DDE and Chair with budget planning and problem solving activities related to the implementation of programs within the PA department
  2. Assist with preparation of grants, reports, and self-studies related to funding and accreditation.
  3. Assist with preparation of handout materials, audiovisual aids, and any other assistance needed by instructors.
  4. Monitor student progress with assistance from instructors; serve as a primary academic advisor for a cohort of students.
  5. Review educational literature and learning media to keep faculty abreast of new teaching/learning strategies.
  6. Assist in reviewing application, interviewing and selecting candidates for programs within the PA Department.
  7. Attend scheduled faculty and staff meetings and provide progress reports on program activity within the PA Department.
  8. Counsel prospective students about programs within the PA Department requirements and participate in other recruitment and marketing activities.
  9. Assist department by providing ongoing editing of informational materials related to programs within the PA Department.
  10. Assist, guide and evaluate student Master’s Capstone projects required for graduation.
  11. Serve on University, School and Department committees as directed by the ASHS Dean and PA Department Chair.
  12. Attend and participate in University, College and Department special events, including, but not limited to, graduation, white coat ceremony, retreats and inter professional activities.
  13. Engage in scholarly activity as described in the University Faculty Handbook.


Skills/Requirements:
  • Master's degree required; Doctoral degree preferred.
  • At least two years of healthcare experience.
  • At least one year of educational experience in a faculty leadership role preferred.
  • Knowledge of PA practice competencies.
  • Strong ability to develop and deliver medical course instruction.
  • Capability of working independently.
  • Excellent organizational and management skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.
  • Cooperative and able to work in team situations.
