Position Summary

The College of Sciences includes eight academic departments, eight academic program areas, and six joint doctoral programs, in addition to the California State University Program in Education and Research in Biotechnology, the Coastal Waters Institute, the Center for Research in Mathematics and Science Education, the Molecular Biology Institute, and the off­ campus sites of the San Diego State University Field Stations and the Mt. Laguna Observatory. There are over 300 full and part-time faculty and 100 clerical and technical employees. There is a wide variety of interest in both teaching and research.

The Dean directs the College with the support of two Associate Deans, one Assistant Dean of Student Affairs, an Administrator II, and administrative support staff. The Dean's Office is responsible for all activities emanating from the creation, implementation, and provision for the continued support and future planning of the instructional and research process in the College.

The incumbent performs a wide range of duties in support of the College Resource Manager and the Deans, and is the first point of contact for the College's eight departments relating to faculty appointments, preparing ATFs, STCs, Grant Workload forms, Assigned Time reporting, Supervision reports, etc. This position is responsible for maintaining the Instructional Budget worksheets, identifying variances and making corrections and providing reports as requested. The incumbent is also responsible for assisting the College Resource Manager with recruiting activities within the College of Sciences.

This is a full-time benefits eligible, permanent (probationary) position. This position is designated non-exempt under FLSA and is eligible for overtime compensation. Standard SDSU work hours are Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., but may vary based on operational needs.

The individual hired into this role will work on-campus at SDSU in San Diego.

Education and Experience

Entry to this classification requires general knowledge and skills in the applicable administrative and/or program field with a foundational knowledge of public administration principles, practices, and methods. This foundation would normally be obtained through a bachelor's degree and/or equivalent training and administrative work experience involving study, analysis, and/or evaluation leading to the development or improvement of administrative policies, procedures, practices, or programs.

Specialized Skills
  • Knowledge and understanding of University policies and procedures as related to this position is required
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Experience working with budgets

  • Preferred Qualifications
    • Experience working with faculty appointments
    • Experience with data collections, analysis and reporting

    Compensation and Benefits

    Starting salary upon appointment is not expected to exceed $4,726 per month.

    Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department's fiscal resources.

    CSU Classification Salary Range: $3,518 - $6,791 per month.

    SDSU Vaccine Policy

    In accordance with the California State University systemwide policy, students, faculty, and staff must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 or provide a valid medical or religious exemption in order to access campus. Individuals are considered fully vaccinated for five months after their final dose of a two-dose COVID-19 vaccine or for two months after receiving the only dose of a single-dose vaccine. Afterward a COVID-19 booster is required to continue to be considered fully vaccinated.

    The individual hired into this role will be required to submit their completed vaccination documentation to the university's secure online health portal prior to beginning work. Individuals with an approved medical or religious exemption on file with the university will be required to participate in SDSU's COVID-19 testing program.
