Position Description

The Athletic Department, the largest Division I athletic program in the nation, is a dynamic and fast-paced working environment that includes 42 intercollegiate athletic teams (with over 1,200 participants), 63 Club sports (with over 2,000 participants), 35 House and 16 Freshman leagues/events (with over 2,500 participants and 1,500 contests) and recreation offerings in addition to management of four campus fitness centers (providing over 525,000 annual visits).

The Financial Analyst, working under the direction of the Finance Manager, will be a lead contributor with timely, accurate, and insightful data to enable informed decision-making at the highest level of the Department.

Specific responsibilities include:
  • Provide analytical and quantitative analysis to support decisions related to the preparation of the annual budget, mid-year forecasts, and multi-year financial plans
  • Oversee monthly, quarterly, and annual closing process
  • Directs the work of the Finance office staff, which is comprised of 3 accounting assistants.
  • Work with the Financial Manager to report on financial performance and prepare for regular senior leadership meetings
  • Analyze and project budgets and financial activity for all administrative departments and sports
  • Design and produce materials to facilitate annual budget planning and financial monitoring of budget to actuals
  • Develop financial models and projections for new business opportunities
  • Identify potential operational challenges, process improvements, and propose and implement solutions
  • Prepare interim and annual financial reports for external constituencies including the NCAA, Ivy League, the U.S. Department of Education, and independent auditors (PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP)
  • Develop and implement best practices for reporting solutions
  • Design and deliver presentations that inform Department Leadership of potential options
  • Serve as the Department contact with various University departments, including Risk Management & Audit services, HUIT and Transportation Services
  • Perform other ad-hoc projects to support the policies and decision-making of Senior management
  • Represent Department at FAS meetings or committees
  • Review and approve all payroll, accounts payable, and expense reimbursement transactions
