Zero Waste Coordinator - Sustainability Office

Classification Title: (Administrative Analyst/Specialist, Exempt I)

Classification Salary Range: $4,170 - $7,545 monthly.

The final salary is dependent upon qualifications and experience.

About the Department/Position:

The Office of Sustainability, housed under the department of Facilities Services, works collaboratively with stakeholders in administration, academics, and student services to promote and implement sustainability practices across campus. Supported by a team of full-time staff and student interns actively working to help the campus “go green,” the Office of Sustainability is always eager to partner with the campus community to pursue new initiatives and partnerships.

Under the general direction of the Sustainability Manager, the Zero Waste Coordinator will support and implement the campus zero waste program and ensure ongoing compliance with state and Chancellor's Office mandates related to campus recycling, source reduction efforts, and waste reduction reporting and performance. Typical work schedule M- F 8:00 am - 5:00 pm. Occasional special event work requiring weekend or on-call work (e.g. Commencement, Housing move-out, etc),

Overview of Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Organize and implement the zero waste program for the campus.
  • Develop and oversee the total operation of the campus zero waste program.
  • Monitor and provide data tracking on-campus waste streams including conducting regular waste audits of campus waste.
  • Oversee students and volunteers with waste data collection, zero waste research projects, and food recovery efforts.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree and/or equivalent training and administrative work experience involving study, analysis, and/or evaluation leading to the development or improvement of administrative policies, procedures, practices, or programs equivalent to at least three (3) years of experience.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Methodologies, practices, and procedures associated with sustainability or waste management in an education setting.
  • The general concepts of sustainability and zero waste practices.
  • Technical knowledge of sustainable practices in the areas of solid waste operations.
  • Work experience with sustainability, recycling, or zero waste issues in an institutional setting is desirable.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • OSHA forklift operator certification.
