The position of Digital Facilities Manager is a full-time position in the Photography Program at Bard College. This calls for up to 40 hours of work per week and runs year-round as part of the undergraduate program, the summer MFA program, and the maintenance intervals between. The Digital Facilities Manager reports to the Program Coordinator of the Photography Program and works daily with students, professors and staff to maintain and facilitate the smooth daily function of the Photography Program.

Undergraduate Academic Year

Administrative:
  • Purchasing all supplies and equipment related to the digital labs for undergraduate semesters.
  • Communication with and training of senior students using the digital labs in Woods, management of access lists and key authorization forms.
  • Hiring, training, and management of student workers to monitor the Brook House digital lab.
  • Facilitate collection of Senior print fees and coordinate payment deposits to the Controller's office.
  • Coordinate with Student Accounts regarding delinquent Senior accounts.
  • Work with the appointed Lecture Admin to coordinate with visiting artist lecturers regarding the design of lecture posters
  • Regular maintenance of inventory documentation for the Program’s digital assets
Facilities Management/IT Systems Management:
  • Facilitating maintenance and repairs of all digital lab equipment
  • Hardware and software maintenance and technical support for three digital imaging labs
  • Oversight and management of all senior user accounts in the Woods Studio digital labs, and shared user accounts in Brook House junior digital lab
  • Installation of new equipment in the digital labs
  • Software updates each semester as needed
  • Screen calibration of lab computer monitors each semester
  • Maintenance and oversight of print tracking system
  • Creating and maintaining disk images of each lab computer template
  • Weekly inventory of supplies and restock as necessary of inkjet supplies (inks, sheet paper, roll paper)
  • Maintenance of classroom computers used by faculty for instruction
  • Maintenance of NAS server and software for data storage use by students
  • Facilitating the procurement and installation of faculty office computers
  • Light technical support for Program lectures
Student Instruction:
  • Senior training of the scanners, printers and shared servers
  • Troubleshooting technical issues with undergraduate students related to scanners, printers, and servers
Clerical Duties:
  • Manually adjusting print totals and communicating with Seniors about accrued totals at midpoint and endpoint of each semester.
  • Communicate/email with senior and junior students about lab protocols, use, or misuse as needed.
  • Tours with prospective students
  • Maintaining a digital archive of all purchase orders requisitioned by this position, lecture posters, print fee balances & payments, other pertinent documents by semester.
MFA Summer Program

Administrative:
  • Shared administrative role in coordination with MFA Program administrators about scheduling and program, facilities, & student needs regarding the upcoming MFA session.
  • Purchase of all supplies and equipment related to the digital labs for the MFA Program.
  • Communicating with and training of Photo MFA students using the digital labs in Woods, and management of said access lists.
  • Hiring, training, scheduling, and management of undergraduate students as summer MFA Assistants.
  • Facilitate collection of Photo MFA print fees and coordinate payment deposits to the Controller's office.
  • Coordinate with Student Accounts regarding delinquent Photo MFA student accounts.
Student Instruction:
  • Photo MFA student training of the scanners, and printers.
  • Communication with and training of MFA photo students to use the digital facilities at Woods Studio
  • Management of access list for MFA photo students at Woods Studio digital facilities
  • Troubleshooting technical issues with Photo MFA students related to the scanners, and printers within the labs.
Facilities Management/IT Systems Management:

  • Hardware and software maintenance and technical support for two digital imaging labs
  • Oversight and management of all MFA user accounts in the Woods digital labs
  • Software updates in preparation for Summer session as needed
  • Screen calibration of lab computers in preparation for Summer session
  • Maintenance and oversight of the print tracking system
  • Weekly inventory of supplies and restock as necessary for all labs (inks, sheet paper, roll paper)
Clerical Duties:
  • Manual adjustment of print fee balances, communication of balances at midpoint and endpoint of summer session and collection of payment to be delivered to MFA administration.
  • Communicate with MFA students about lab protocols, use, or misuse as needed.
  • Maintaining a digital archive of all purchase orders requisitioned by this position, print fees and other important documents for the duration of the MFA session.
Qualifications
  • Excellent computer skills for Mac and related systems
  • Strong organization and people skills with students
  • High level of energy and creative problem-solving skills
  • Mastery of Mac OS, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Bridge, and Microsoft Excel is essential
  • Experience with Epson devices, large format inkjet printers, archival film scanning
  • Familiarity with scanning software, print tracking software, and basic HTML coding​
Physical Qualifications
  • Must be able to sit for extended periods of time and work in standard office environment
  • Must be able to occasionally lift 20 pounds
