Job Summary

Residence Life at the University of Colorado Boulder encourages applications for an Assistant Director of Paraprofessional Selection & Training ! The CU Boulder Assistant Director of Residence Life position is a live out professional exempt position. The primary purpose of this position is to coordinate a comprehensive training program for various student staff and student leader positions, and lead all aspects of the student staff experience through facilitation of regular check-ins and ongoing in-service development opportunities.

This role will support the program development, supervision, facilities and hall and community development of a residential neighborhood at CU Boulder.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

Human Resource Management
  • Directly supervise 2-3 professional master’s level hall directors and indirectly supervise 50+ student staff members in multiple capacities.
  • Assist in implementation of recruitment, hiring, supervision and evaluation processes for student affairs focused staff at all professional level positions in Residence Life.
  • Conduct intentional performance reviews for professional staff and maintain ongoing accountability focused on learning.
  • Assist professional staff to build inclusive and caring relationships with student staff and students within the residential community.
  • Manage the training team for student staff.
  • Be responsible for the creation and assessment of a comprehensive training and development program for student staff.
  • Ensure all federal, state, university, and departmental hiring processes are followed.
  • Ensure university training requirements for all residence life student staff are met.
Strategy & Planning
  • Provide exceptional leadership through strategy, planning, implementation, and assessment, for all assigned initiatives and committee work in Residence Life and the Division of Student Affairs.
  • Support the development and furthering of the organizational philosophy, mission, and programs within Residence Life.
  • Assist the development, implementation, and interpretation of benchmarking and community surveys for residence life.
  • Assist in development and provide leadership for completion of residence life strategic goals and initiatives.
  • Participate in vision creation, resources, and strategic implementation in the Residence Life strategy/planning process.
  • Act as representative of Residence Life and student affairs on campus.
Co-Curricular & Student Leadership
  • Assist in programs that accelerate the academic, interpersonal/ behavioral, citizenship, and leadership skills for all resident students at the university.
  • Assist in the development, articulation, and implementation a student development model for the residence halls.
  • Advocate student concerns to the university and community populations.
  • Assist in campus retention and enrollment management efforts.
Operations & Administration
  • Guide the residence life initiatives to create a seamless operational and administrative environment that exceeds student needs and expectations.
  • Chair departmental working groups and represent the department to the university and Boulder community committees as assigned.
  • Serves as a residence life liaison to maintenance, environmental services, dining services, conference services, occupancy management, and finance units.
  • Assist with facility concern in residence halls.
External Relations
  • Provide excellent support and leadership to all external collaborators through service minded attention to the broader housing, student affairs, and university missions.
  • Serve and lead student affairs committees as needed.
  • Work with parents regarding concerns for students in the halls.
  • Assist with New Student and Family Programs.
Fiscal Resource Management
  • Administrate all fiscal processes with maximum integrity and timeliness.
  • Follow all federal, state, university and departmental budget procedures.
  • Assist in managing the residence life budgets.
  • Allocate budget dollars to support critical initiatives.
Emergency Response
  • Direct and evaluate regional emergency and crisis responses.
  • Serve in an on-call rotation for 7,700+ residents.
  • Provide crisis management assistance and follow up.
  • Uphold departmental and university crisis response policies and procedures.
What You Should Know
  • All University of Colorado Boulder employees are required to follow the campus COVID-19 vaccine requirement .

  • Work Schedule: M-F 8-5pm with some night and weekend responsibilities. Flexible work schedule may be available.
What We Can Offer
  • The salary range is $65,000- $68,000 annually.
  • Onboarding assistance is available within Student Affairs division guidelines.

What We Require
  • Master’s Degree in Student Affairs and Higher Education or related field. (Equivalent combination of education and experience may substitute.)
  • 3 years of progressive experience in a residence life/housing program..
  • Experience should also demonstrate responsible organizational authority in a residence life/housing program.
  • Experience working with faculty partnerships in a residential setting.
  • Previous supervision experience.

  • Proven experience with student conduct, crisis intervention and emergency response.
  • Demonstrated dedication to social justice and inclusion in a residential setting.
What We Would Like You To Have
  • Experience with leading staff training and/or selection.
  • Experience working in a residential environment, preferably a residential college or residential curriculum model.
  • Experience with a first year student experience residential program.
  • Experience with developing learning outcomes and evaluations.
  • Operational knowledge of technology, computer programs, and budget development.
