Job Summary

The Department of Mathematics at the University of Colorado Boulder encourages applications for an Accounting Technician III! This position provides accounting, budgeting, and payroll support and coordinates all financial operations for the department.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be
  • Create contracts and perform data entry to ensure that all students and faculty are paid accurately. Check payroll rosters, verify pay, and complete payroll transfers. Initiate, revise and maintain procedures for personnel to report issues affecting payroll. Provide and explain budget information and account balances including providing a list of all account balances to the Chair each month.
  • Coordinate all aspects of financial service to the department, following campus procedures and policies that will ensure sound fiscal management. Initiate requisitions and purchasing, and maintain 104 general fund accounts, 5 auxiliary accounts, 8 grant accounts, 13 gift accounts and 2 plant fund accounts. Establish a monthly financial meeting with the department chair and office manager to discuss balances, transfers, and deficits.
  • Review monthly and year end statements, authorize payment of accounts payable vouchers, purchase orders, travel expense vouchers, page charge costs, and transfer of funds forms. Coordinate all faculty computer purchases and track capital equipment as the Capital Equipment Liaison. Coordinate travel for visitors ensuring sufficient funds are available.

This position works in a hybrid capacity with 3 days per week remote and 2 days per week in-person.

What We Require
  • Three years of experience in an occupational field related to the work assigned to the position. Appropriate education will substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.
What You Will Need
  • Demonstrated ability to thrive independently and assume responsibility for initiating and completing critical functions.
  • Proficiency with Adobe Acrobat and MS Office applications, especially Outlook, Word, Excel, and Power Point.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a variety of professionals, administrators, and students.
  • Capability to work optimally in a team and within collaborative work situations.
What We Would Like You To Have
  • Associate's Degree or higher.
  • 3+ years of experience in accounting, business administration, finance, or a closely related field.
