Position Details

Duties Performed in the Usual Course of the Job
Sam Houston State University seeks a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor of English specializing in 20th and 21st-century African American Literature and Culture or African Diasporic Literature to begin in the Fall of 2023. We especially welcome applications from those whose research focuses on literature written after 1945.

The chosen candidate will teach three courses per semester (face-to-face and online) that include all levels of undergraduate and M.A. courses in African American literature, surveys of American literature, world literature, and freshman composition. Other required activities include: Cultivating and maintaining an active research agenda, supporting the department, college and university through service, actively engaging in recruitment and curriculum development. Educational Requirements for the Position
The successful candidate will have a Ph.D. by August 21, 2023 in English or a closely related discipline. Experience Required for the Position
An active research agenda in African American or African diasporic literature, a record of experience in college-level teaching, and evidence of excellent communication skills. Other Requirements for the Position
