Job Description Summary:
General: Administration of program work; assisting in evaluation and outcome analysis. Related duties include academic advising of students, maintaining weekly office hours, attending meetings, serving on committees, and participation in special University events and ceremonies.
Clinical: Primary responsibilities of this position include development, maintenance and evaluation of clinical/pre-clinical sites and preceptors; performing clinical site visits; grading of clinical assignments; monitoring and evaluating student clinical logging and evaluations; assisting with clinical scheduling and overseeing clinical remediation.
Didactic: Teaching with course coordination; assisting in curriculum development and review; remedial instruction as well as outcomes analysis of student and course performance.
Additional responsibilities include student advisement, mentoring and the monitoring of student performance; active involvement in the PA program admissions process, active participation in maintaining PA program accreditation, and involvement and leadership in PA program community outreach programs.
Duties and Responsibilities:
(50%) Didactic Responsibilities
- Develops instructional materials and student learning activities for didactic or clinical instruction based on program and course objectives and within the context of the program’s philosophy
- Collaborates with other faculty to coordinate theory and clinical instruction to provide optimal learning environment for students
- Selects and uses a variety of situationally appropriate teaching methods and strategies, including but not limited to lecture, discussion, role-playing, group activities, audiovisual and technical materials
- Communicates effectively with students and peers in teaching course and clinical material and in the achievement of identified learning goals
- Provides regular and timely feedback to students, including the return of written assignments
- Documents student performance deficiencies in writing to the student as soon as identified
- Completes formative and summative evaluation reports on student achievement of learning objectives according to College policy
- Evaluates courses and instructional performance annually and more often if needed
- Is available during regularly posted office hours and by appointment to provide academic advising to students outside of class
- Maintains currency of knowledge in subject area
- Achieves annual goals for scholarship and research appropriate for role and FTE
- Assist in maintaining the clinical database and portals, patient logging systems, accreditation testing programs, proctoring software and various other software programs utilized by the programs and clinical agencies.
- Assist in maintaining student and preceptor evaluations, collecting information from clinical sites and in disseminating the information to faculty. Assist in preparing periodic reports to faculty on student(s) performance in the clinical setting.
- Assist in the negotiation of clinical site affiliation agreements, pursing additional sites and clinical opportunities for the program.
Other Duties and Special Projects as Assigned
- Responds to voice or email messages within 48 hours.
- Is punctual to class. Notifies supervisor of illness/unavoidable absence in advance of course meetings.
- Attends course meetings and participates in shared governance by serving on departmental, program, and college-wide committees as appropriate to FTE.
- Actively participates in course and curriculum development and accreditation activities.
- Attends college or program ceremonies and events.

Knowledge
- A minimum of a master’s degree and two years of full-time clinical experience appropriate to area of teaching responsibility.
- Prior teaching experience required or strongly preferred.
- Current clinical expertise.
- Experience with curriculum development and professional program accreditation preferred.
- Maintains licensure/certification required for the teaching assignment.
- Additional criteria may be required for rank above Assistant Professor.
- Supervises and evaluates students in the classroom and/or clinical setting.
- Excellent writing and oral presentation skills
- Ability to prioritize and organize workload
- Knowledge of clinical development/rotations and department management in higher education
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- In-depth knowledge of the roles and requirements of physician assistants
- National certification as a physician assistant
- Masters’ degree in related field. Ph.D. in a health science or related field preferred
- A minimum of 2 years of experience as a practicing physician assistant
- A minimum of 4 years teaching experience in higher education required and administrative experience strongly preferred
- Typical office environment
- Mostly indoor office environment with windows
- Offices with frequent interruptions
