Job Description Summary:There are adjunct faculty opportunities available for the online Doctor of Nursing Practice program. These opportunities are ideal for nurses who have expertise in advanced nursing and advanced practice nursing but are not seeking full-time teaching positions.
Duties and Responsibilities:

Major Areas of responsibilities include but not limited to:

All Assignments
  • Completes the required orientation for adjunct faculty
  • Creates a dynamic, learner-centered environment that supports the diverse learning needs of the student population based on educational theory and evidence-based teaching practices
  • Apprises students of their progress in coursework or project completion and for those who are not meeting expectations, establishes a mutual learning plan to achieve stated goals
  • Notifies the program director/chair (and course manager if relevant) of at-risk students as soon as identified and at least weekly thereafter
  • Completes final evaluation of student performance and submits student grades on time
  • Participates in program and course faculty meetings as needed
  • Meets with program faculty to review the course and make recommendations for improvements
  • Refers students to appropriate learning and support resources.
Teaching (Theory)
  • Prepares and conducts effective online learning activities congruent with the course objectives
  • Plans learning experiences that are appropriate for practice doctoral pedagogy
  • Organizes and maintains the Canvas course
  • Responds to student electronic and other communications within 48 hours
  • Prepares and reviews student projects and evaluates learner performance in the classroom
  • Meets with students as requested outside of class to provide learning support
  • Submits attendance as required by the university
DNP Project Chair
  • Provides guidance and support for the development and implementation of a DNP project consistent with the objectives of the project and DNP project guidelines
  • Manages the DNP project committee to support the student with the development and implementation of their DNP project
  • Mentors students through the completion of their projects
  • Advocates for students through the completion of their projects
  • Responds to student electronic and other communications within 48 hours
  • Meets with students and/or the project committee as needed or requested
Education and/or Experience:
  • Earned doctorate is required. Doctorate in nursing (PhD or DNP) from an accredited institution of higher learning is preferred
  • Experience with advanced nursing or advanced nursing practice is required
  • Experience teaching diverse students at the graduate level is preferred
  • Rank is commensurate with qualifications and experience
  • Experience working with practice project implementation in healthcare and community organizations is preferred

Samuel Merritt University currently provides base salary ranges for all positions-on job advertisements-in the United States based on local requirements. Individual compensation will ultimately be determined based on a variety of relevant factors including but-not limited to qualifications, geographic location, and other relevant skills.
